Box Game by sevkron

made by sevkron for LD 43 (JAM)

Hello this is Sevkron speaking. For this game we decided to stay in a small team and make a simple looking game, Box Game. It's a 2 player versus game, so I know not everyone will be able to play it as intended but it's worth a try. The game supports keyboard or controllers.

The goal is to be the first player to kill the other twice. Thankfully there's 3 weapons you can do that with. But at the end of each round, each player must choose a weapon to sacrifice.

This is the first game I've programmed from A-Z and I'l quite proud of the result, there's a couple of bugs still in there but the main elements work. The music is also original.

NOTE : The controls for Player 2 on the keyboard uses the 0, 1 and 3 number keypads, NOT 1, 2, 3

It has been really fun Ludum Dare, see you soon ! Capture.PNG

Fun little game you got going here. I particularly liked the grenade launcher and fun jumping physics.

Basic, but still fun platform fighting game. Kinda reminds me of the stuff you'd find on Newgrounds back in the day.

@drevilbrain Our inital ideas came from Duck Game and Stick Fight as well, thanks for the feedback !

This a very cool game. I love the way you setup the graphics, nice particle effects, nice post processing effects, and a cool heart beating effect on the boxes.

The sacrificing mechanic is cool, but I feel it would be cooler to make it so that whatever you sacrifice will be given to the other person (you only use what the other person doesn't have). This would prevent both people from always choosing the same weapons to sacrifice.

Is there a reason why you opted out of audio (I like the lyrics :))?

I would love to see this idea expanded! Nice job!

Good luck on getting those final ratings!

@ajayajayaj First of all thanks for the feedback!

To be honest, once we had the initial concept, we continued forward without questionning the sacrifice mechanic. Turns out a lot of people came up with this same type of idea for the theme (sacrificing a player mechanic). Your suggestion is a better way of doing this for sure.

It didn't feel honest to opt in that category because we didn't make the sound effects from scratch unlike some other entries. Having them is important for the gameplay experience so I did spend some time implementing them. But the music is original though, so thank you for the compliment, we had fun making it.

I would continue this project for sure, I'm happy with it.

I like that the "sacrifice" bit also helps with balancing! This is a really nice game, good job
