- IGLU -

It's cold! Don't freeze! Fight your way through 3 stages and a boss to save your girlfriend! You play as Iglu, a snow coat wearing dog who shoots tennis balls (don't ask us why) and you must protect yourself from Snow Ghosts and the terrifying Snowhead! Collect the required amount of dog biscuits to satisfy Bribe Dog so he will let you move on! Make sure to rest near a fire pit to keep warm (look at your coldness bar on the top left!). You can also collect Hot Water Bottles to boost your warmth a bit. Remember... the colder you are... well... it's bad because you die.

NOTE: The game is a bit harder than anticipated but it's not impossible! Might need to be tweaked a bit.

Controls (Keyboard)

  • A / Left Arrow - Left
  • D / Right Arrow - Right
  • W / Up Arrow - Jump
  • Spacebar - Shoot
  • B - Bark

Controls (XBOX 360 / XBOX One)

  • Left Analog Stick / D-Pad - Move
  • A - Jump
  • B - Bark
  • LT - Shoot

Objectives

  • Collect the necessary Dog Biscuits to move on the to the next stage
  • Keep warm! Use fire pits and hot water bottles (small boost of warmth) - keep an eye on the coldness bar on the top left
  • Shoot tennis balls to defend yourself from the Snow Ghosts!

I agree that it might be a little hard all things considered. It felt like the hot water bottles weren't really helping as much as I thought they should; maybe make them more potent? Still, I had fun playing the game! Great graphics and music!

Very difficult game and frustrating at times, but the graphics and music are great!

Look, I thought it was cool!

A very original idea.

I couldn't get past the first area. I'm not sure how many areas there are in the Jam version. The level design in the first area is awkward. The cold meter goes quickly and the hitboxes for the enemies are unforgiving. But the art and sound is absolutely wonderful.

Easily the best hot dog simulator I've played all day.

This game was awesome. Tight jumps and fun controls were a highlight of my LD experience. On the other hand, there was a fall in level 2 where my friend and I consistently fell through the floor. If you are in Unity, consider adding some linecasting to check for that.

@shinyogre There are 3 areas and a boss fight.

@lanedavis We're in Phaser.io!

Thank you all for the votes and feedback :)

Cool entry! :) Controls were nice and I liked the art style/environment. As you noted, it's a bit difficult but still manageable!

A fun game to be sure - just a bit too punishing! I must have done the 2nd level 40+ times before beating it. And this was with version 0.2. But other than that, it's a great effort.

Really good entry! I love the art style and the music! The game itself is a bit too hard but really addictive. Good luck!

Woah dude, didn't think a game about a dog trying to save his girlfriend would be this unforgiving.
Although I do have small issue with the game, when I'm playing sidescrollers on the keyboard I expect the jump button to be the spacebar so it was a bit hard to get used to.

Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare! And a mighty fine game it is for a first Dare! As other people have mentioned, the difficulty might be a touch high for a jam game. Since players are expected to play and rate a whole bunch of games in one go, they tend to get frustrated easier. What you've done here is impressive though, so good work!

A game hard as the old Nes game!I was never as proud as I was to finish a first level.
Second level killed my soul. At the start you aren't at a fire and you have to do the perfect timing to get to the first one. There are jumps where you don't see the next platform.

### What I liked
* The challenge
* The graphics and music are enjoyable!
* The concept of cold bar is original

### How to improve
* Too hard
* Maybe add some more places where the player can rest :smile:

Nice plateformer. I wish the dog would stop jumping if I keep "Up" pressed, and only jump if I release/repress the key, I tend to keep it pressed and end-up jumping again when I get on a ledge.

This looks nice and the controls are good and precise. But it is very hard. I tried quite a few times, but i couldn't get past the second level, i would have liked to see what you do with the mechanics later on. A solid game.

Great entry! The graphics are very nice and the music fits very well! Like others said, the game is a bit too challenging. Perhaps you could make the earlier levels a bit easier and build up the challenge as the player progress? However, the level designs are indeed very nice, very challenging, which is nice. The only thing that needs to improve is the difficulty curve. Also, the dog looks exactly the same to the dog in our entry! Anyway, good job!
