Free to Play by Hooraygil
Hello, we're the Electrical Artists and this is Fee - uhh.. cough cough - Free to Play.

Play it on the web: https://hooraygil.itch.io/fee-to-play
It's a 2D sidescrolling Platformer with heavy focus on microtransactions. The game is full of ads for lootboxes and other awesomeness.
Except all those pesky ads do is clutter the gamescreen. We know it sucks. But hey, we want your money.

However, we're not total pricks so you can move them out of the way or just close them. You can even jump onto them to help you with your platforming. See? We're the good guys! Anyways, you can shoot fireballs (after eating hot sauce), so this game is awesome!

On a more serious note : This was our first Ludum Dare and we learned a lot! We would not have been able to finish without the help of my wonderful girlfriend @lui though, who spontaneously jumped in to do lot's of the sprites and sounds for our game! Thanks a lot for that (and also my roomate who did one of the level sounds). -@hooraygil

I enjoyed the couple of minutes I played the game for, and we understand the hard work needed to create something like this! Our team also worked hard to create a game for the jam. You can check it out [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/jazzy-beats)! :whale:
You are right with the bootsad @robinhoodpt apparently there got a script somehow missing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I added an downloadlink for the game on windows!
The impossible jumps is another thing thats adressed to the randomness of the game, but if you're lucky and there is an Ad spawn you can basically get any jump! ;)
thanks for playing!
I do like the ads because it hides the problems with the platforming. :)
Nice work
It's a very interesting (and grindy) take on platforming and lootboxes. It's works and feels like a charm, except having to attack with f. That's some weird mapping, but nothing game breaking. Still, good sounds, good music, and a hilarious spin on the theme. I liked it a lot. The ad-driven platforminess really sets this aside from other endless runners. Having those annoying ads with sounds could have given a more powerful impact.
That's pretty much all I've got to say on it. Speaking for our team, we congratulate you for delivering such a fun (and lootboxey) experience. Kudos! :whale:
Good job :)
I liked how comical everything was but I didn't know that I needed 100k points to not have an "empty" wallet. I guess if that was made clear, i made go and grind again!
Speaking of death, I kept dying without understanding why until I realized that those plants which seemingly do nothing were silently taking away some of my health. Maybe give some visual feedback, like making the character flash and recoil, when they get hurt?
Thanks to your Feedback @gelisam yes in hindsight we would/should have added lot's of other stuff like telling the players that they have to collect 100.000 points to get the reward! :p I'm also not very happy with the jumping mechanic, thats mostly because we couldn't get the sweetspot for the jumpvalues and had some problems with disabling the colliders to be able to jump through the plattforms from the downside.
Anyways I can't see the problem with the spacebar as it should work just like you say, when holding spacebar the charakter will perform "bunnyjumps" (just tried it myself).
I think we will upload a "fixed" Version when we find the time and try to implement most of the Feedback!
Thanks to all
The only problem that I stumbled upon was that the character collisions with ads were very inconsistent. So sometimes I just clipped through them trying to propel my character upward.
Well, there is one more thing but it might just be the problem with my hardware (or with my arm and fingers). Sometimes I start dragging the window but it slips and is left behind the cursor. But as I said, it might just be my personal problem.
All in all it's a solid entry and the mechanics of helping your character by dragging some objects in the world might be worth experimenting with and expanding upon outside the jam.
The low key graphics were great
The ads were funny and it was cool that you could interact with them
Controls weren't perfect (the height of the jump could be maybe just a little bit higher?) but they were good enough
I wish there was a bit of feedback when you lost a heart, sometimes I didn't realize that I was getting hit
