Cloudwalker by JLV

[raw]
made by JLV for LD 44 (COMPO)

High up in the sky, beyond the clouds, a Sentry monitors the battlefield, restlessly pinpointing incoming enemy troops. It is said that its flight is powered by state-of-the art anti-gravity boots... But in a time where resources are scarcer than ever, is that technology really sustainable ?

In Cloudwalker, your goal is to spot incoming ennemies. Day after day, you will receive new communications from your commander. Keep in mind that flying is not free : watch your energy level closely.

Communicate with your commander day after day. sc1.png

Watch out for ennemies from your aerial position. (Clouds on Windows version only) sc6.png

Keep track of intruders with your cursor to pinpoint them. Past a certain number of identified ennemies, the story will move on. sc7.png

Reach the end of the game and discover secrets ! sc5.png

This game was developed with mobile VR (Cardboard) in mind. As such, even in the HTML5 version, all interactions are based on the direction you are aiming for. To activate a button or identify an enemy, just keep your cursor on it (on PC) or keep your gaze on it (in VR).

The HTML5 build makes for a nice preview, but performance is lackluster.

Thanks for playing !

I saw that you have created a VR game.

Do you know if it works on the Oculus Go or Vive?

Thanks for sharing your creation!

@saoi-games Thank you for your interest ! The game was made with **mobile** VR in mind (should have been more accurate in the description).

To share it with as many people as possible, I focused on making a first-person traditional game, and then made the Android build available on my itch page (Cardboard and equivalent only).

This was interesting. A really clever take on the theme even though it was a little bit confusing how everything worked. Well done!

Interesting you went with a Google Cardboard game! Had an interesting time though on WebGL, since I didn't have a headset handy. Also enjoyed the story too.

I was a bit uncertain about playing this with a mouse, but I am glad I sticked to the end. Nice job.

I like the art and mood that you create in this game! I know that's sounds ambitious for the deadline, but a narration instead of text, would be a huge increment in the game mood! Nice job!

I found the end result somewhat crude and clunky, but I like the fact that you actually went ahead and tried to make a VR-game.

I tested the Android-version on Honor8 utilizing a cheap VR-kit I got from a second-hand shop sometime ago. As I'm quite new to any kind of VR-technology, playing it was an interesting experience for me.

Keep it going, man!

Big plus for being able to work on VR, though I used a desktop to play. This was a curious and quite original take on the theme. Music isn't super exciting, but I think that works very well for the mood and the "end reveal", so it's kind of foreshadowing I guess. Simple gameplay, can be a bit hard to "observe" the aircraft, so the challenge lies in catching and holding it in your sight long enough. Very neat experiment that seems to have lots of potential. 4.0 overall!

hmm I thought the game was a bit slow, good work on the music / ambience though :)

I don't have cardboard, so I guess I will have to stick with desktop  Nice mood! I just didn't understand how the energy was being drained from the boots, is it just time? Or missing an enemy? Does spotting enemies actually matter? Great job overall!
