More info

The year is 2112; in the Facility, humanity has finally put their bugbears at rest: poverty, discrimination and stupidity are finally behind us.

Behold the pinnacle of human evolution: the geek.

Only problem is, there is nothing left to EAT.

In this uniquely keyboardian PvP shooter, help the last humans keep population under control and recycle biomass.

WARNING: below video contains profanity. If you are sensitive, or underage, please don't watch it. This is actual play testing with friends, not some sanitized PC thing.

Are you ready for POPULATION ONE?

  • Navigate, shoot and other things using your keyboard. Be quick, be witted, be tactical.
  • Good news: every game action brings you closer to getting recycled!
  • Keep chatting, or be toast.

A few tips

  • At any time press ENTER to start chatting/emitting commands. Then press ESC when you are done; for example after a match press ESC to resume bouncing around via WASD
  • Needless to say this game is played with friends. To help ensure that you don't just stumble into an empty room, I've taken a "one room, one server, one region" approach.
  • Many commands are disabled when no match is setup. On the other hand, before matching you can WASD around the game area, which is not possible during matches.
  • This game uses keyboard input. Some of the basic commands: move forward, look left, look up, look down, cam up, cam down, shoot (you can see the full list, except hidden commands, in the banner at the top of the game view!)
  • Share your tips/discoveries on the game forum (via itch.io)
  • If you type smileys, they will appear in the digital display above brainy (really)
  • Because this game includes a chat function, I kindly recommend that you play it with a parent so you don't get upset or to minimize exposure to bad language. Seriously.

Parting shot

This game is a branch of Project Neo, a framework which I cleaned up and pushed to Github when LD44 started. You can find the source and media here:

https://github.com/eelstork/Neo/tree/br2112

Licensed media (sound) aren't made available. Also, I do not include a list of profanities used by the chat filter. Other than that, you are welcome to look around the project and derive works from this. I'll consolidate the license later, but for now, the general idea is: derivative works okay; plagiarism... not okay : D

I hope you will enjoy this game! Have fun!

Definitely needs saying, if you are playing this alone, you are doing it wrong. Go back, get some friends, then rate!

Jmcm16 here, and well done! I did manage to log onto the server with a guy named "Sup" (if it's you dev, then great! He seemed to know the controls extremely wel...) and I had a blast. This is the kind of game that needs to be made to explore new ideas! The controls were... Ahem, very tactile. Almost clicky in a sense. The server was very responsive, and I got to experience something really unique.

Excellent job!

Its an interesting concept that fits the theme nicely, other than that I unfortunately don't have much more to say.

I think it has potential tho, and it would be quite fun with a large group of people, try advertising certain times for playing.

Dat sound tho

Good work, interesting concept.
I think you have to add a tutorial for explaining all the commands, because we had to need you on twitch for some tricks :)
