SH4PE by ragnarolis

So. Here we have it. Red Shorts Studios second entry in Ludum Dare.

From the creators of "Knight time Day time", we bring you SH4PE.

The goal is simple. Match the big shape with the small one in the box, and lock it in. But don't lock the wrong shape in or you will lose time.

The game was made by two youngsters:
Ragnar Óli Sigurðsson (me) - Programmer, sound-guy and game designer
Kolmar Halldórsson - Artist and co-game designer

We used Pyxel Edit for art
Game Maker: Studio for game development
BFXR.net for sound effects and
Audacity for sound editing

We had a ton of fun making this game (once we figured out an idea).
We had so much fun we are thinking of releasing an Android version of the game some time in 2016, so stay tuned for that!

Thank you Ludum Dare and it's awesome community. One love <3

I felt like this entry was just a little too simple to be really enjoyable. Simply randomizing a shape and hoping it matches a target shape got boring extremely quickly, and there wasn't a ton of feedback to make success feel good or mistakes feel obvious.
It's a nice, simple idea that could do well if it were expanded on a bit, but in its current state I'm just not feelin' it.
As a piece of general advice, it's usually more convenient to compile Game Maker games as "Single Runtime Executables" instead of "NSIS installers." You might want to use that option in the future.

Graphics, gameplay, and sound all complemented each other nicely. Seems perfect for as a phone app.

Nice, simple game with simple mechanic. Got a bit repetitive after a while, but it was a nice game

Could not run - after it installed the screen went black. I can still hear noises if I click but I can't see anything unfortunately. ):

I'll admit, I was more than a bit confused by the scrolling shape background. I didn't realize it was just window dressing - I was like, "match WHAT shape?" until I noticed the little yellow box in the bottom left. Definitely needs some work on the UI.

Simple is good. This would make a perfect phone app. I would add levels and have a total time to beat the level. add particle effects once a level is beaten. I would also add a how to play screen because I have to admit I was a bit confused when I first started it. You are really on to something here. Well Done!

The graphics and sound effects were really well done. The game was very entertaining, for a short period. I think there needs to be more depth in the game. It felt meaningless, and unrewarding of a goal and there wasn't a feeling of mastery anywhere. Just felt like luck of the dice chose your fate. Otherwise, well executed, simple, and fun. Also, I was a bit confused initially with what shape to match with what and kind of the general objective of the game. Maybe making the background more screened / less saturated might bring the important matching gameplay elements out more in the ui.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
