VamBot by ModalModule
You are a Vampire Robot and must suck energy from your bot victims to stay alive.
I even put in a tutorial! :) shift to reset game, weird choice I realized after the fact...
It's a survival action game, where you get tallied on seconds survived and bots killed. How far can you get??
My high score. :)
Also, this is my first LD, and also my first "published" game. :)

Well it showed up now but I can't see a way to delete this (on mobile), anyway, enjoy! :)
Well done!

Oh and thanks for the reminder, I am working on a song right now, but will immediately after! Really excited to play everyone's games!
I'd say you fit the theme pretty well, but you need to work in some extra innovation with the concept to really unlock the fun in this one.
But nice first submission and first published game! Keep it up!
@nalia1991 sorry! I made up my mind. ;) I can imagine the complaint had I allowed for left attacks: "it's too hard to reach the dead bots! D:" hahaha Thanks for the compliments! I did enjoy it, and I'm also enjoying playing everyone else's games! :)
I also felt like the randomness of the robots despawning led to an end state that was out of my control. I had 5 or 6 robots in a row that just blew up, and I just drained all the way out with no possible way of recovering. Maybe the randomness should have been curved a bit, where if you were below a certain amount of energy, the chance went back to 100%, or something? Either way, in a survival game like this, having the game end without feeling like it was your fault isn't a good feeling on that front.
Besides that, I liked the art style, and the attack / vampire mechanics were solid and entertaining. I would have liked the background music to maybe be a little quieter though.
@doomshmuck I totally understand where you're coming from on both fronts. I decided to make them spawn from the left for the sake of a little more interesting movement, as otherwise I was just trudging ahead the whole time. I don't know why, but I began to enjoy the circling around them to attack from their left strategy. I did audio last, and after taking too long to make the song (I originally had a 3rd section of the song in mind but didn't have time), I just threw all the sfx/music on really quick and left them all full blast. If I was to have the time, I would totally add volume controls. In regards to the despawning, yes, I had some rounds that felt unfair as well, and yes if I set a rule for if you're low on power to always leave a cracked bot that would be good. I had enough good runs to feel like it was more fair than unfair, so I just went with it.
@sketchycode yes, I would've loved to elaborate and make more bots, I wanted bosses every so often as well (did that in another infinite game I made before, unreleased) and it was awesome, led to way more variety. Alas, I got a late start on the jam, and didn't have time... As per the camera, it technically never moves, so you're right! However, the enemies and bg move corresponding to your movement to make it feel like it's moving, at least that's what I was going for, not sure if there's any other way to make an infinite game in GMS2.
@don-fouts yes, I suppose I should mention definitely programmer art, I am in NO WAY a visual artist, but I like doing games on my own, and just trying my best to portray what's in my head.
Thanks again everyone!
Very simple graphics. 3/5 cause you did animations. You should also flip the sprite when he is moving left.
Theme.
Nothing special done with the theme but not bad. 3/5.
Innovation.
Just a generic gameplay. 1/5.
Fun.
Fun for 2 minutes but then gets boring killing same enemies over and over. 2/5.
Audio.
Really liked that track. 4/5.
overall good job on your first published game, keep it up.
I loved:
- The game mechanics
- The audio
- That sweet animated background
I would have loved:
- Being able to face backwards to attack
Excellent for a first time, I hope to see you on future LDs!
There really needed to be a way to turn around. It just felt awkward to have to walk around enemies coming from behind to attack. But for a first game this was a solid entry!
