Puzzling Bullets by Josh6680

[raw]
made by Josh6680 for LD 41 (JAM)

Control the ship and fire bullets at the base of the blocks to move them around the puzzle. The goal is to get every puzzle block onto one of the colored tiles to make them stop shooting at you and complete the (very few) levels.

Note: We ran out of time to finish the game due to several technical problems during development, and conflicting schedules for the weekend, so it's very incomplete; there's a lot missing from it. For example, the bullets do not do anything, there's no menus, no win or lose screen, and the level designs are also incomplete.

The original idea was Puzzle + Shooter (or Bullet Hell).

Controls

W, S, A, D = Move ship around.
Left, Right, Up, Down arrows = Also move ship around.
Spacebar = Fire a bullet in the direction the ship is facing.

This is a really unique idea, and really fits the theme. It took me a little while to figure out I was supposed to shoot the grey part of the block to move it onto the colorful tiles. I think that would have been more clear if it started with the smaller levels, then building up to that big level with several blocks.

yeah, the "first" level is supposed to be like the second or third. if you check enemies.json, you'll also see just how much we didn't really get completed yet.

and there are NUMEROUS other mechanics I wanted to add. We'll probably pursue a post-jam build, but much later, for multiple reasons
Thanks for the feedback :3

The idea is good and unique: sokoban and bullet hell could turn into an interesting game!

Too bad your team didn't finish in time...

This needed a tutorial and audio, because I didn't know what to do.
Also, Bullets don't do anything.

Felt incomplete :unamused:

There was a glitch with finishing the "final" level (it was like the third or fourth one i played) where there was only a single exit but 2 towers, after the first tower fell into place the next puzzles stopped spawning, i don't know if this was intentional to only have four levels and no "win" screen or if there was more to be seen that i didnt get to because it broke. I thought it was really good though (idk if the bullets were meant to do anything but) the first level i played had me scared because tower things shooting at is always scary returning fire lead to them being push around, then i saw the puzzle elements and i was like oh thats neat, and just start speedrunning through levels. It was a really good besides some polish.

Thanks for your comments. We are well aware that our game is not finished and is therefore missing many things that would normally be expected. I have hopefully clarified this in the description. Thanks for checking it out anyway, and good luck with your own games.

Ha ha! I'm glad there is another team who have practically the same idea. The concept is good and you can push it further. And if you're curious you can see what we've done on our side. Good job! :)

We intend to pursue a post-jam version, however are not presently able to do so.

Probably will start by June or July, but actual completion date is completely unknown.

I will be sure to check out your submission when I am able! I am presently on an iPhone... (not exactly by choice...)

Thanks for your feedback!
