Fish Master by Pheonise

[raw]
made by Pheonise for LD 41 (COMPO)

Fish Master is a Turn-Based Fishing game. The goal is simple: you are given a random rod, and need to try to catch a fish!

It was made in the final 15 hours of the compo. While the main systems are in place (rods, fish, actions for each), I ran out of time before I could make each encounter less repetitive. The functionality is there, just not enough time!

There seems to be a problem with the WebGL version using some versions of Chrome - if you can't see the frames like the image above, there's something wrong, and might need to update Chrome, or download the standalone.

Well designed game I'm like it. A bit repetitive.

Music is extra cool. Really silly mix of genres, you got me hooked (he-he). Very funny concept, liked it a lot.

Great game! Really gives me that nostalgia to those old pokémon games. It's also pretty humorous to think about turn based fishing hahaha. lovely game dude!

I though I was in good shape when I snagged a trout and showed a tuna who's boss. But, noooooo... the carp would have none of it... until I Swished him into submission! Though my line was on the verge of breaking, that carp was mine! Now you need to come out with a fish cooking sequel ;) Overall, great job. The whole ascetic, from the graphics to the music, brought me back to my childhood spent wasting way too much time with JRPGs

This is great. I absolutely love the Pokémon look, it would've been even better if you used a palette like Pokémon Blue / Red did. The colors of the rods and the fish feel kind of out of place. But that's just my personal opinion, ignore if you don't agree.

Really great game!

Overall, a really good compo entry! The aesthetic is on point and definitely makes for a cohesive game. I happened to get the dragon rod my first 2 encounters, and thought the game was pretty easy, but then I got a wooden stick and I saw the real challenge!

It would be cool if there was some more variety in moves though

Cool idea and mash-up with the Pokemon theme. I was left hoping that fish were a bit different from each other. Maybe more mechanics to manipulate the distance or maybe fish itself. Items like in Pokemon could have worked here.

All in all, good game with nice aesthetics but a bit repetitive.

So nostalgic and fun! The art with the fish were really nice and I was pleasantly surprised to see there were multiple types after only hooking tuna for a while haha. I did notice the text was partially covered by the rod so it was a bit hard to read but everything else was on point.
Really fun, good work!

Solid game! I managed to get a tuna. I like that it was a bit of a challenge. The rod art doesn't quite match the fish, but that's my only nitpick.

Looks nice. Mechanics are done, now you just have to come up with a story and you have a nice classic pokemon parody game. If you put some effort into it this could be released. Too bad you didn't have more time to expand on this idea.

This is incredible! I had a similar idea during the jam, but I wish I had thought of that. Hahahahaha
Congrats, it's great, it's fun and it's "fishy".

Awesome game! With some other rods and other fish type, I could see this going somewhere! I loved the music, it gave me a huge sense of nostalgia. Love the art too!

Pokemon, fishing style! lol
Like fighting a Magicarp, just not endless amounts of splash attacks and as frustrating. Nice idea :)

This is awesome! When it was released I played the blue edition like crazy. You really nailed the style and mood of this game. The music is awesome, the graphics are also very good. I would have loved it even more, if you would have adhered to a 4-color GB Palette (because the gameboy classic was the device I grew up with and I never enjoyed the gb color as much as the classic), but that might just be me.

Regarding gameplay I like the battle system and everything works. It is, however a little bit repetitive. Having items to use or special bait to lure "exceptional fish" and perhaps a shop mechanic (like selling your fish and buying new equipment) would be a great addition to your gameplay (if you decide to develop this further, which i hope :) )

Great game, really love it!

Amazing art, sfx and music! It all fits very well. The animations could've been a bit faster, but overall this is a very good turn-based fisher. Turns out yanking isn't very good, I couldn't catch a single fish with it.
