Radiant Barrels by x1212

This is our entry for Ludum Dare 40:
You play as a boat that has the job to transport toxic waste.
But since no one wants to get that waste from you, you can't really get rid of it that easily ... but you have to as space on your boat is limited and you have to earn something to keep going and taking those barrels with you is your only source of income.
Without any food (yellow bar) your boat and it's crew slowly run out of health. To refill the food just go to a nearby dock, but keep in mind that you will also have to take a barrel of toxic waste with you.
Those reduce the amount of health you regenerate with food to the point that your health even decreases when you have food.
You can just throw those barrels away, but while doing so nearby ships will attack you.
Controlls:
- Arrow Keys for movement
- (holding) Return (or Enter or Space) for throwing away your barrels.
VR Support:
If you have an OpenVR compatible Headset there you can also play in VR (but not recommended in the Jam version). In that case there are some additional (buggy) controlls to set the zoom of the world (Distance of the Controllers when pressing the grab-buttons) and to change the position of the world (depends on the position of tha HMD to the VR-Space center when zooming). This is only available in the original Release since using native modules and exporting doesn't really work in the Godot 3.0 beta yet. (that's also the reason why the original Release was just sources + editor and startup script)
Recommended version:
The recommended version is the one using the real exports (added Dec 9 2017), the only difference should be the removal of the experimental vr mode and use of the official Godot Engine 3.0 Beta export templates. In case you run into performance issues use the nossr (disabled screen space reflections) versions as they should be a little less demanding on the GPU.
We built this using a custom build of godot. In case it doesn't work for you and you want to try to build it yourself, the commit we used was abdcf2c02456619fd8aa65aa95da76046369b642.

There's also a bug where the moment I started the game, I got attacked right away by the closest ship?
I can't put my finger on it, but I did sail through the entire song. There's something so raw about what you made, it's intriguing all the same, and awesome in that.
One last remark: the landing page here isn't really appealing. I stumbled on this page before, but, especially given no web build was available, was hesitant on trying it out, not in the least due to the toxic colors in the screenshots. I find more people should experience what you made, also so you can get a ranking, so maybe a single screenshot could serve better than four?
@joror: yes, it's way easier than I planned it to be, the "AI" I made is just horrible :p the camera was supposed to make the game feel like one of those old isometric 3D ones but I didn't get the perspective right ...
@willowblade: Thanks a lot, I made quite a lot of mistakes when creating this landing page and while I did realize that I hadn't got it right, I wasn't quite able to put my finger on what exactly was wrong with it. The thing about the Return/Enter key: actually all keys that by default are used as ui_accept by godot should work, but I forgot to mention that you have to keep holding the button and well I didn't get to add an animation in time, so you could see what is happening.
@nnnikki: that's weird, what version on what platform?
About an web export, I will look into it but last time I tried, there were some issues with missing materials/textures ...

A litle animation when moving the boat would be cool, some times I could not say if I where still moving due to the slow movement and homogeneous surronding. Maybe something like a litle bit of foam rear the boat could help.
