Effigy by Sauski

[raw]
made by Sauski for LD 43 (JAM)

effbanner.jpg

Sacrifices must be made...and then burnt! Arrange bales of hay into the specified effigy shape, then set them on fire as tribute to whatever deity you desire.

But watch out, some hasty individuals are attempting to set your effigy alight before it is complete! Whichever deity you're sacrificing to, you can bet they only accept complete sacrifices. Make sure to put out any unwanted fires using your bucket of water!

* Includes Online Multiplayer! *

Make sure if you see others online you challenge them to an effigy building contest! Be sure to set their effigy on fire before it is complete to nullify their sacrifice!

You should receive a notification even in single player that someone has challenged you

* Controls *

* WASD *: Character Movement

* Mouse *: Character Facing

E (Contextual): Pickup & Put down Bales of Hay. Refresh Water Charges at the Well.

* Left Click *: Light a bale of hay on fire.

* Right Click *: Use water to put out fire.

* Mouse Wheel *: Zoom

* Notes: *

-You can pick up more than 1 bale of straw.

-Overlapping bales are acceptable as long as your effigy shape is covered.

-Our water pickup sound isn't working but you can see your water charges in top left of UI

Quite fun but a bit repetitive ! Good realisation overall. I think it'd be good to add a way to repulse the ennemies and also some feedback when you get water because I had to try a few times before realising I already had water.

Wish my computer was faster (3-year old lower-end laptop), after about the 5th or 6th effigy, got a bit of slowdown that made putting out the fires difficult-to-impossible. Not a slight against the game itself, but just fyi. Like the concept, seems fun as a multiplayer game, perhaps local splitscreen multiplayer could be worked out for it?

A very good game. First ludum dare I play this time that is multiplayer. It's a interesting strategy game where there is a lot going on. My main concern is that you can sabbotage your oponent so much that a duel can get very very long. Even so I have never seen a game with this mechanics and I loved it 😁. At the beggining it was hard to understnd the game about what's the water and how to know I got it. But most problems are small fixes so overall I give this game 4.5 stars

Me and another player spent about 10 minutes stealing each others bales of straw trying to finish our last effigy. Somehow managed to yoink enough of his away and put them on my side quick enough to make most of the shape. Other players would randomly come up and take or burn my straw. Nice use of the theme and a good implementation of multiplayer. I probably got too emotional over people burning my effigys prematurely. 8/10 would sacrifice to Cthulhu again :thumbsup:

Nice game, didn't get to challenge anyone though. The NPCs help me light my effigy on fire after its complete, maybe they should try to put it out then. Overall, I enjoyed it. Good job!

I only played singleplayer and I thought after a while it got repetitive, especially the music. However, I think this would be a lot of fun in multiplayer.

Wow! The multiplayer is another thing! Stole, burn... I enjoyed playing with another player! There are things can be improved, like the gamee feel, polish, feedback about your actions... but the essential and the basic mechanics are there! Congrats! Good job! :clap_tone3: :clap_tone3:

Cool mechanics. I liked the guys who ran in from the sides and set things on fire. It was nice that you'd implemented some stuff to make single player interesting, even though it was clearly designed for multiplayer.

Quickly feels repetitive. Maybe fooling around with physic would have been fun. The ennemy mechanics is not we well added to the overall game.
But you manage to implement multiplayer during a game jam, and that.... respect.

Super cool! I loved that it was multiplayer and single player. It was weirdly addicting for such a simple concept, I thought it was really fun! the movement was kinda weird at some points but I got used to it, after a bit.

Fun, straight forward game, single player does get a bit repetitive after completing a few effigies.

Fun game, and I love seeing the multiplayer! I liked it, though some more abilities or environmental effects would have been nice—it got a bit repetitive in single player.
