About
Insekter!!!! is a game about bugs (:spider:), :gun: and escaping the desolate wasteland of Tellus in a not too distant future. Run, shoot, hide behind doors and buy guns from oddly convenient gun depots (that will inexplicably kill you if you can't fork up the cash :joy:) as you make your way to the escape pod on the other end of the bunker.
Controls
Move around using WASD or the arrows.
Aim and shoot using the mouse.
'M' toggles in-game audio.

This game has _some juice_ to it - cam shake, music triggers etc, but I guess you guys ran out of time to do a final polish, as there's some pretty annoying (unintentional) bugs that sour the overall experience I'm afraid.
As you mention in your About section, using health as the same resource to buy equipment is interesting, but letting that kill the player by letting you 'over spend' is pretty unfair... one of the bugs shoots a homing bullet that never seems to vanish, even if its already hit you and taken health which... is also pretty unfair...
Theres something here you could definitely work on if you want to continue with this project post Jam, but it could definitely use some polish
(I feel compelled to say that spiders aren't insects, even if that is completely irrelevant to the game.)
The graphics were quite nice, and the soundtrack was excellent! The gunplay was satisfactory, however the spawn rate of the spiders made it pretty hard to navigate, especially with the end game gun; the recoil was so powerful that is was almost impossible to move and shoot at the same time, and the spiders respawned so fast, that this made it really hard to cut a path through them.
On the other hand, when I finally reached the escape pod, this also meant that the victory felt well deserved indeed. The two upgrade guns felt very satisfying (except for the recoil on the last gun, as mentioned above), and had a significant effect to justify the extra expenditure of credits. The game had excellent atmosphere, with a lot of nice visual and audible effects to really enhance the experience. If you have the opportunity, you should consider making a post-LD version with an extra bugfix pass, as the underlying game is very satisfying.
I did run into a few bugs (pun not intended ;) ) - at some point in the beginning, after getting the first gun and firing at the first spiders, the "move left" control suddenly locked, causing the main character to always run to the left, even when no buttons were pressed. And for the south-most gun-seller, the gun-labels are rendered upside down.
>Spiders everywhere!
>Grab a suitable weapon,
>and blast your way through!
The controls worked quite well most of the time but I may have found a bug where they weren't responding at all for a short duration, but other than that excellent work!
(Get a bug where I couldn't buy anything from the store for a while)

The gameplay itself was fun, but the spawn rate of the enemies was huge, and the AI wasn't robust enough to either be a challenge, or to pathfind in any way that made it possible for them to be worth spending time on. I just farmed their spawn point, bought the machine gun, and walked thru the rest of the level shooting. Good job with the music!
