Hello, we're Fred and Mei and this is our first time participating in Ludum Dare...!

We've gone for a "survival horror" + language app game: Trapped in the Norwegian wilderness you have to take a crash course in Norwegian to be able to effectively communicate your location when radioing out for help. However, with something lurking in the woods attracted to the light from your phone, this might not be so easy....

We had a lot of fun working on this game — it's only our second game overall, and our first time working with Unity. The software being unfamiliar to us, we hit a lot of snags along the way — one of the biggest being that the in-game text is pretty hard to read, a problem that didn't present itself until it was too late to fix. For a mostly text-based game that's a pretty bad snag, and something we would have definitely addressed had we had more time.

Still, we think we put in a valiant effort and we hope you'll give the game a try....! Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Big thanks, Mei and Fred

The game has been updated to be actually playable! Here's the log:

26.04.18 - Changed variables to give players more time to use the phone app and lessen the chance of an attack - Improved graphics of phone app to make it readable - Changed a sound effect - Fixed some bugs

Survival Horror was never and probably will never be a genre I am good at. The idea is really creative but the game is too hard (or may be I am just bad which is very probable). The visuals and the sound effects are awesome and creates a great mood that fits the game. I will try again after collecting some courage... hopefully. Excellent job.

Very challenging but doesn't seem to be fair. Learning a language is a bit difficult task with too less time given not my type game but game is really polished.

I have to agree with the previous commenters about the difficulty (I died quite unpredictably and for an unknown reason), but the mood, graphics, and concept are all top notch, and the genre mixing really fit the theme more than most entries I've seen so far. Lots of potential here!

@RetrogradeMarmalade @Yetman @HOPgames @balint I think we definitely made the game a little bit too hard to beat...! If the Ludum Dare rules allow it, we'll definitely be looking to update the game to give players more time to solve the puzzles before the monster attacks. Thanks so much for the feedback, and for giving the game a try!
