I'm not sure if I'm just bad at it, but sometimes the planets generate at a distance that it's impossible to cover in a jump. My suggestion would be to make a progression from simple jumps to harder ones later in the level. Got to 620k on my best run. Asteroids should be little bit less punishing, I often died just because I hit one by accident and were not able to reach the closest planet. The art style made me very nostalgic for old newgrounds games.
