Defender of the Road by Val

My first LD! A Tower Defense x Racing game.
Tips:
- Don't let the monster reach the end of the road or you will lose health!
- Press T to build a defense turret.
- Press U to upgrade the nearest turret. Upgrading a turret makes it faster and reach a larger distance.
- Press Space to use your car's canon.
- The monsters will appear faster over time.

I just had a good play with your game and for a first LD I actually found it weirdly enjoyable. I loved building up a little empire of turrets and seeing projectiles fly everywhere. So in the fun category you definitely succeeded in.
The Visuals were nice but could be improved. Looks like you focused quite a bit on the car model. Yes, it looks nice, but as a result it looks out of place with all the other more 'hand-drawn' sprites. The sound effects were pleasent and not overdone though the loop got slightly repetitive after a while.
There are some more glaring issues I found though. Controls are a bit odd to say the least. Having to reach over to T and U everytime was slightly irritating and could've been improved (Personally I prefer Q and E). Also, the game doesn't pause or stop after you win so my ears got subjected to around 20 seconds of torture everytime I finished. Also no way to restart from what I can tell.
Otherwise, a nice little game for the compo. Some more variety in the towers and enemies would've been nice. Good Job :)
Oh yeah, my highest score was: 6490

Nice job :-)

Not bad for a first LD. I'm impressed that you actually could make one that's free of glitches and as intense as this one. It does start a bit slow, but it really escalates into something far more challenging. An speeding up nonstopping wave of enemies is something I'd like to see in more Tower Defenses. Just the basics, but with an increased pace to focus on placement and upgrading but without too much clutter.
There's certainly aspects to improve in here, such as how the score appeared behind the enemies, making it hard to read. But still, I had a fun time on this one.
[My team](twitter.com/whalesandgames) would like to see more of you in the future, so keep working towards more LDs. See you next time! :whale:
Since its basically just a hero based tower defense game - on that i think alot more could be done to make it more interesting, such as monster variations instead of just packing them closer and closer together. Also very easy to get super high score using just your racecar(hero)
Also having having reverse is a bummer thats how i ended up loosing o stopped blocking the road and tried to try something else but too many got through.
I liked the graphics. The enemies had their own sort of weird charm. Nicely done!
