Goblinz Demize by Lodugh

[raw]
made by Lodugh for LD 43 (JAM)

This is the story of Goblins seeking refuge while their world is falling apart. You have to sacrifice one thing after another. Your home, your stuff and maybe even your relatives. We would describe it as a text adventure with point and click elements.

Most planned features will follow in a post-jam-version but its already playable. 🌈

Nice one, nicely balanced. I wished there were more different events, so that would last longer and be less repetitive. I really like the designs of the goblins, and the little stories the objects tell (can that object be useful ? what for ? (except of course for the food, water and weapons ^^)) Nice job !

@garymarance Glad, that you liked it as much :). Making more events really were the thing we wished most that we would have been able to do at the end. Especially more ways to interact with the story and the interactions between the characters. Thats definitely stuff that will follow in a post jam version! You can follow me on itch.io if you want to keep up to date ;).

**Goblin Slayer is triggered**

Nice text adventure / point and click

Nice work! A few adjustments that might make things a little better would be...
- The first section where you pick your starting resources, I would have liked to see a tally of what things were picked up, and maybe what the items did before picking them up. I didn't realize what I could actually pick up, nor that I could move to other rooms without triggering the next section.
- During the actual game, keeping the status of the characters (thirst and hunger, specifically) available after that first message would have been good, as the names were pretty hard to remember.
- The font choice was difficult to read... If you are going for a text based adventure, it's probably pretty important to be able to read the text easily. The font choice here had several characters that were hard to tell the difference between.

This was good fun. I like these kind of games. It does need a bit more variation on the daily events. I kept getting the same thing. Graphics are great, and the story was well done. Good stuff :8ball:

@oddballdave @sadsmile @Anonymous : Glad that you liked it and thanks a lot for the feedback! :)
The first section really just was thrown together at the end and we definitely plan to improve it in many ways. Better overview of you characters status is planned as well.

Love the style of game! The point and click aspect is really fun, I'm not seeing too much of that in the games I've played (I'm usually drawn to the platformers, but I loved your art!)

Great game idea, and I'd love to see you expand on it! Thanks for jammin'!

When I try to play the game, all I see is a black screen with "Index out of bounds" written in the middle (using Firefox)

Dang this is a morbid game haha. I kind of wish there are more events in the game as I continued the journey but this is pretty cool. Well done!

I like the idea of a small adventure, I never really connected with the characters, but I think if this was done in another genre it can really work. Much Love.

The theme worked great in this game, having to make difficult choices when everyone was hungry or thirsty. Great mood and art.

The mood was incredible, and I don't even need to mention the art. It's simply out of this world. However, the gamplay itself wasn't that much fun. Honestly I wasn't sure what I was doing most of the time. I like the idea behind it, but it felt like my actions didn't matter that much. But that was probably just my bad.

The art is fantastic, some depictions are quite gruesome.
The game over all is quite fun, even if a little short. The mood of being on the run was amazing.
Congratulations on the game!

That... was very sad. I survived with two goblins the first time, but I never even had a chance to use two of my items.

In the opening, it would have been nice to have some indication that certain items were interactable so that I could know what to click on.

I just played through it again and I'm beginning to see which items are the most important, but there's still certain things that I have no idea what they did or why they were there... what was up with the hermit and the carrot? I don't know?

All in all that was super fun and very depressing. I loved it.

Ahh the mood here is great! Those big sad goblin eyes looking at me, judging me for not making the right decisions! And a very good fit to the theme. Beautiful. I hope you continue to develop it, more interactions and story would be really nice. One problem I had was that I couldn't keep the characters apart (typical human chauvinist as I am) and forgot their names, so I accidentally gave things to the wrong person. But 3/4 survived anyway so I count that as a success...

Hey, all my goblins made it on my second try. Guess I got a good run of "luck" there. Makes up for letting only one traumatized goblin survive on my first go.

The choose-your-items start was a cool idea, but I never needed any items besides food, water and the bow. Though I presume there are random events that need the others too. This page's screenshot shows some injured goblins, I'm guessing that's what the bandages were for.

The bleak mood is very good, although the goblin-narrated opening felt a bit too lighthearted. Perhaps it was meant to let us know of the innocent mindset of our golbins before sending them on through their ardeous journey, but it didn't really work that way for me.

Nonetheless, a good, atmospheric entry.
