Sacrificial city is a game where you build a city under the watchful gaze of the volcano god. You must appease this cruel god by sacrificing captives or your own population to keep your Doom level from geting to low. But you can also buy powerful gifts with Doom. To get captives and other resources you may raid other settlements. Your population grows when you have food, more food and they grow faster. And they die when you don't have it.

Really well done. Gameplay is really catchy. Thanks for implementing mute button :o. Also would be cool if you could chop down trees and build on their places.

Very fun, the music is not good, but I didn't minded the simple graphics as the gameplay was really engaging. Had me playing for a while. Very well balanced too.

This game has a lot of neat mechanics going on! You don't see many building/simulation games in LD with this much depth. It did seem the economy was a bit too generous, but for game jams, it's better to have an easy game than a hard one.

I didn't mind the simple graphics so much, but the UI could have definitely used some work. While the font is nice, a simpler one for the lengthy parts(ie. the instructions) may work better. Music is repetitive, but the sound effects were a decent attempt. Overall, still a great entry, especially for one person.

Good, solid game.

Though I felt like there either was a cap on the rate of the doom goind down or that the rate increased too slowly. Personally I would find it nice if the rate the doom deteriorates would go up infinetly or exponentially, so that the player would eventually be "forced" to lose.

I feel with the goal of the game being surviving as long as possible it would create more urgency if it was harder to manage the doom. Though I guess that is just balancing.

How long did you play @taddl? There is a cap but you only hit that after 15 min. I do agree that you should be forced to lose at some point but I didn't have much time when balancing it and though it was more important balancing it I d to make sure that people didn't die the first thing they did.

Nice game, good take on the theme.

I lost my first playthrough due to food shortage, but second game I managed to go "infinite" due to being able to win against the city consistently and refilling military pretty quickly.

My only gripe with the resource management side of the game is that once a temple has been built, stone seems hardly useful anymore, but other than that, I had fun balancing my economy.

@gorka Thank you, I knew you could go on infinitely but was short on time and prioritised people not having to hard of a time in the beginning. You are right about the stone as well but don't we all have tons of stuff we don't have time to put in

@glassar I probably played over the 15 min mark so I could build all the buildings and do all 3 attacks a few times, but I restarted because I wanted to see the game over and had amassed over 1000 doom.

And yes for the jam its probably more important to have it as accessible as possible. Like I said only a minor point. Still a good game.

You stole my idea damn you - I'll drop you in the volcano
Love the art style - and what a brilliant concept

The the first disconcerting notes of the music I knew this was going to be a good 'un! The gameplay is super polished for a jam game, having the ability to sacrifice was also a nice twist. It would have been nice to had placement have an impact but already the scope is huge!

Thank you @crosenlund79, should be fixed now. Also what did you say that you could see. My danish/Norwegian is not very good (am Swedish).

No worries ;) Just said - that it was kind of funny if the only other game so close to my own was actually danish ;) And then I wrote that you could see the FirmaCS list and a "to play" LD list ;)

Amazing job considering you worked alone. Plenty of little details in graphics. Some sort of marker or color change which shows whether stat is going up or down would be useful. Music is crazy but it goes well with game's tick timer. I can't say I was very successful and got very far, but the game kept me amused for some time.

Ok i really enjoyed this game and gave it a big thumbs up. Though balancing is very hard in such limited time span but you somehow manage it. Kudos man really
