THERE IS BUTTON FEEDBACK!!! \OoO/

StrateJump is a simple, friendly turn-based (NO STRATEGY REQUIRED!) Jump'N'Run. You can collect Power Ups, you can jump and run the crap out of the game, if you want. You can collect mutations, wich work as passive abilities. The game itself is alive and trys it's best to keep you from playing it, because it is ashamed about the enemy-less gameplay. Maybe, the enemies are switched with short puzzles? Who knows...

I tried my best to create nice music for my game. I created something very viby with a nice 80's-touch.

I am 17 and this is the second "complete" game i've created. It's not really complete, because all the mechanics are working, i also got some more mechanics, but i am not able to put more time into Level-building than i did. I decided to finish up the levels and to use another idea i had in the beginning of the Jam: The invisible-mode. Everything visible gets invisible and everything invisible get's visible. I added this visibility-switched-levels as 'bonus' levels behind the last level.

If you want, you can try to beat my highscores:426 Turns, if you include the 'Bonus-levels' and 138 Turns without them.!

I will add some screenshots for you :D

On gamestart screen2.png

You also can get [SPRINT] as special moving-ability! screen3.png

Maybe you want to ask "But what about everything else you developed, but not included? Well, i will update my game in the next weeks, with the hope it will get long enough to be played as a long game (something about 20-30 minutes will be the goal). Everything new won't be included in my sourcecode, because i created a special Jam-Version of it, in wich i only included everything i've used to make it a little bit smaller. My exported game is of course exported out of this sourcecode, not out of the other, not-jam-version.

I posted a windows and a Web-Gl-version on itch.io. The sourcecode is also aviable on itch.io, since i expirienced some serious trouble with git... Because of the size, i will upload also the assets seperately today for someone who don't needs to get the full project. Make sure, that you don't to spam error-messeages multiple times in a row without at least a half second between the button-presses! If you spam the DOWN button, your game may crash. I am working on a fix for that! Anyway: Feel free to play and have fun :D

INVISIBLE PLATFORMS? NOOO ahahaha

It's really a well themed and funny game!
Loved your 2D art and the transition between scenes.
Oh, if you press the down arrow a couple of time on invisible platform, the game freezes.

Really happy about your work! Create a post-ld version with polished assets, it have tons of potential!

The controls could be a bit smoother, but otherwise fun!

Hey :D Thank you @vilix64 and @Memel06 <3

I like that the game waits after you jump for your next turn, I haven't seen that in a game before, very interesting. The music fits good as well.

Hey @Memel06 i thought i had answered about that post-ld-version, but seems like i havent, so yeah! There oft course will be a post-ld-version! I had a great time, developing my game and i think it will be even more fun to do that without a time limit :3

That was really fun. I liked the minimalist look, and I kind of preferred it focusing on traversal more than enemies, makes the game relaxing. :)

Fun game ! I really enjoyed the music and the art direction ! The concept is quite cool too :)

(The game just crashed my navigator, but that's okay ^^ It was when I was close to the objective in the second level)

Overall cool game, keep coding :)

Fun game! It develops nicely as you play and doesn't throw too much at you at once. Gameplay is smooth and there's something about hovering mid-jump while deciding which way to move next which works very well. Well done!

It might seem like spamming my own comments, but i want everybody to know, that i apreciate every word, may it be praise or critism, wich was and will be said about my game :D
I won't keep writing this to every person, because that might get this comment section to be big to way fast for my german shool-english to manage xD

Good job, especially with the concept and music!

It looks like a fun game that fits the LD theme very well.
Just gotta make sure not to press up or down 3 times in a row quickly because it makes the page crash.

@ludum1118 Agreed. I wasn't able to get past the 2nd level because 3 times my browser tab crashed. I echo the sentiment of the others here though, congrats on your Ludum Dare entry and keep at it. This is a good start.

@ludum1118 and @ErikU oh... I am sorry about that bug, i may also take a look at this, maybe i need to lock the option to use the ability to fast in a row with acooldown (tickbased, not round-based.) I can use a tickcounter, wich ist actually included right now. It's just an addition to an if statement, wich will do th job. About 20 ticks should do the job, maybe. But i will also try to fix this without a time limitation, because this might be frustrating.

Edit: I found the bug. Will be fixed when i find some time to do that. It's a bad-placed for-loop i think. Right now, i don't have time to fix it (school).
Anyway: Thanks for your feedback and bug-reporting :D

Nice game!

The text is funny, the controls are good, the idea is cool as well. I believe it could very well translates into a full game (maybe with a larger view of the level and new level-design ideas).
Overall, a solid effort! Congrats :)

Verry fun game you kind of created a "puzzle turnbased jump and run". Also like it that you get additional abilities later on. Nice work.

The idea is very clearly defined and controls are responsive. It seemed to crash on me, however, when I would press up or down too much.

I really like the the humor in this!

Having made a turn based (card based) plattformer myself the responsiveness of the game in spite of it's turn based nature is really impressive. One is quick to start over if something is wrong.

A few nitpicks:
* you can somewhat break out of the grid that is induced by '1 move/turn to the right = n units' and this can get you stuck-ish at some situations(you can break back into pattern but that is a bit annoying to do)
* I played the WebGL version and there is no fullscreen option - for such a small window the amount of screen clutter especially during the menu was a bit too much.

I have found a bug that has prevented me from passing the give up zone (when you press 3 times up the game crash).
our game has similar ideas and it seemed very original to me that you can jump in the air thanks to the turns <3

I really liked the movement. I agree with @radow that sometimes the physics gets you out of the grid movement which can get you stuck. All in all good game

Turned based platformer! Great take on the theme. Loving the invisible platforms as well.

Great concept!

I think your game would perform much better if the grid system was very much locked, instead of a normal physics with chunks of movements, that probably would also solve a lot of bugs that you had in the game ( that you also find a clever solution adding a lot of humor on them!)

Enjoyable experience, keep up the work!

This was a super cool game, I like the humour and self awareness the game shows - you clearly have a bright future in games. I got stuck at the "give up" door after finding a fake wall, but enjoyed the rest of the experience!

@pogo You need to get back to the spawn of this level. The first switch not only activates the door but also a second switch ;D
Thank a lot for your words :D

Great take on the theme. The music fits well the gameplay. Good game, mainly developed for a compo.

Please, take a look at my game too: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional

I got to about turn 320 before it froze. Annoyingly I can't get music to stop playing even after the web browser page closed...super weird.

Heads up, the music is SUPER loud. I had to turn down my volume almost completely off. I think the volume combined with the music tone waveform (triangle or square wave?) makes it very intense.

The gameplay worked okay but I kept finding myself wanting to play as a non-turn-based platformer instead. :P

@gafblizzard At first: thank you for your feedback :D
I am going to do a after-jam version without this wierd "crash-bug".
For this version i will create volume-sliders and also maybe (maybe) a "Not-Turn-Based-Option" :D

Sweeeet! Love this game. The gameplay and idea was nice, thought I was not able to complete it as the game froze. But what I really loved about this was the polish- like whenever it displays a message that we are too tired, the subtle animation really adds a nice touch. Great game!

P.S. Sorry for rating the game so late. Actually my PC crashed and everything was deleted. I got a new MacBook just yesterday, so now I've started rating games again.

Hey @Anubhav Kashyap thank you for your feedback :D
I am sorry for the bugs, i will release a after-jam version without them and i am working on it just right now. :D
