This is my entry for the Ludum Dare 39 Compo Jam!

Theme - "Running out of Power"

My Idea - My game is based around an ex-superhero named Stan. Stan's world has become overrun by robots which forced Stan out of retirement. Stan is not the same hero he once was, and quickly finds that the more he exerts himself, the more ability to fight crime he loses.

I created the entirety of this game - programming, design, art, etc. from scratch with the 48 hour period between Friday July 28th 2017 at 6PM and Sunday July 30th at 6PM.

The game is pretty buggy and bit short but I hope you get this jist of what I was going for when creating this game.

ANY AND ALL FEEDBACK IS GREATLY APPRECIATED - ENJOY!

-Johnny

I really like the concept of a super hero growing weaker over time. Fun idea :) The platforming was pretty loose and I never felt challenged even as my powers reduced. Getting hurt jumping on the robo caterpillar/dog thingies was weird. I felt like Stan should have been able to squash them because he's so buff. Good work pulling together a complete game!

Very clever and unique idea, but the game needs more polishing(for some reason I cannot jump).

You chose a good way to interpret the theme. I was torn between knowing which power to lose between each level, which I guess was the whole point. Perhaps you could add a "difficult" mode in which the power that you lose is chosen randomly.

That game was really fun! I didn't get to Jump to work with W tho, and I feel like the game mightv'e crashed when I got to the end. But great job on your first game jam! we should work together sometime.

The laser didn't hit the small guys not sure if that was intended and I feel that there should have been animations, though great game overall congrats on finishing it :)

I like the concept of loosing power as you progress in contrast to gaining power and it's a nice use of the theme. Levels were pretty short and kinda bland in terms of design and challenge though. I never felt much of an impact from the downgrade in power. Since the game is short, instead of losing a single point between levels perhaps loosing all points in an area would've been more interesting. Anyway, congrats on finishing your first LD. The first one is usually the hardest but it's never easy to make a game in 48h. I hope you'll partake in more!

The controls were sticky but I think that might have been my keyboard.

I died when an enemy bounded between me and the wall and took out my health in half a second. Maybe add i-frames?

That was an interesting interpretation of the theme. It seemed though that there's little benefit to killing enemies (perhaps a higher score?) and more inclination to quickly complete the levels. W didn't work for me as well. The platforming could be made a bit smoother, as the stomp works occasionally, and controls feel a little floaty. A lot of blind jumps into enemies and the sensitive camera zooming out can be a bit disorienting. Leaderboards doesn't seem to work and the score doesn't seem to reset at 0 upon a game over. Anyway, commendable job making a game in 48h!

Funny story for your game! :) The take on the theme is funny too, but when I played the game, I didn't have the feeling that I was running out of "power", it felt more like a regular health bar. It would have been cool if running/jumping and shooting would use power, but the hero was otherwise invinsible.

Otherwise the controls felt good, the graphics are a bit simple but worked well together. A scrolling background would have been nice. I didn't hear any sound/music, did I miss something?

Nice use of the theme. Liked the way you had to decide how you would lose more abilities each level, just wish it had more of an impact cause at times it didn't seem obvious enough how it was impacting me. The short levels where a good thing in that it gave instant feedback to how I was going. I did notice that the leaderboard just kept saying loading for me at the end but never showed anything. Congrats on your first entry.
