GuitarPicks by Solnak

[raw]
made by Solnak for LD 41 (COMPO)

Thanks for checking my game. This is my second participation to a Ludum Dare and my first one in Compo.

The game I made is about a metalhead going to seek GuitarPicks where a metal festival took place. It's common that member of the playing bands throw some guitar picks at the crowd and not every one are catched.

This a Puzzle-Turn-based-Rogue-like, your energy is limited. Collect as many guitar picks as you can. Beers and Horns Sign will help you, beware of the angry elders who dislike the mess in their park the previous days. They will beat you up with their stick and their zimmer frame. Use the water puddle to make them slip and fell down.

Good Luck !!

Control are limited to arrow keys.

EDIT : I highly recommend playing on the webbrowser via the last url for the game !

Nice little game. I like color choices in art department, although I would make floor a bit darker to make all other objects more readable. As for the gameplay - I like your choice of mechanics, although combat seems a but frustrating at first.
Great job overall, keep participating, man :)

Love the art style and the gameplay is pretty slick. Not sure these are truly 'incompatible' genres, but that's not really the point. This is a great piece of work.

Tried playing the Mac version, but I'm getting a "can't be opened" error message :(

Your Linux version needs to have the game binary marked as executable, apart from that though it plays quite well.
There's a small graphical issue where the background peeks through the edges between some sprites.

I must say, the music is really nice.

Hi @Solnak, congratz for the entry, great artworks! As you use Unity you could generate a WebGL build and deploy it on a service such itch.io, it could make your game playable by every users without having to handle several game builds

@nidup Thanks a lot for the advice, since i'm new in this universe i didn't know it was that easy ! Awesome it even gets rid of the weird pixel glitch some people had with my game. I'm really grateful you take the time to nicely suggest me to do this :).

Thanks for all the feedbacks everyone !

@solnak welcome, making a web build really helps  Very cool entry by the way, I like the ambiance & graphics, pretty fun to have to escape grannies making them fall into the water :stuck_out_tongue:

Ahah nice one at the end, it's clear that non-metalheads wouldn't have understood why they should listen to something like that ^^

Nicely done, would have loved to have a little drumkick when I move but beside that real fun

Really nice graphics and gameplay, it was really fun to play. I love it when they fall while trying to catch you :D.
The icing on the cake would be to add a little effect when you grab the pick. For the moment the level change is a little bit brutal.

Really impressive job !

Loved making the old people fall on the puddles as terrible as that is to say haha. I enjoyed the strategic elements, though the fact that the old people's movements were unpredictable (and you could spawn next to them or get trapped inside them) made it a little unfair at times. Overall a solid entry, especially for the Compo!

Nice little zelda-like, or what you call this kind of game :-)

Really cool graphics, everything fits together. Fun animations.

The music and sound effects also fit the graphics very well, very cool artwork!

The AI is very simple, the old people do not move when behind a rock. They sometimes block the exit but this can create kind of a puzzle when you have to get them away from the goal before exiting the level.

Overall a solid entry, keep up the good work!

Wonky story with engaging gameplay. c: Feels polished and complete overall with graphics, mechanics and audio and even a little story. It's all there. And of course the procedural generation makes for endless gameplay until the player tires! Figuring out the mechanics can be a little confusing at first. I wonder if I would've done as well if I hadn't initially seen this on stream with you providing some explanations in the chat, but having to provide instructions outside of the game is common in jams and not really something I would stress too much. As long as the instructions are available at all! Very good entry!
