A tragic shift of the video game industry towards DLC, freemium games, and walking simulators has irrevocably ruined games. As a True Gamer, Shovelware Knight has only one choice: Destroy the entire concept of video games by releasing so many shovelware titles that nobody will every play video games again.

The more shovelware titles you have, the worse video games are!

Heads up, there's no real win condition but you can go for a highscore :)

Controls:

Mainly just use the mouse
Spam click the intro if you want to skip it :)

Browser Compatibility

I've only tested this game in Chrome. Apparently it may not work in Firefox.

I've added a post-compo version! It has a few important tweaks but also some extra stuff!

Also, if you want to see the game but get stuck due to like, not wanting to step over your own ethical boundaries, check the comment section for some... 'cheats'

Nice tribute to Shovel Knight (which is great, BTW)
Love the nice graphics and 8-bit music, good job!

Didn't play too far, though ; having to upload content was a blocker for me.

This is definitely a unique game concept. You should have better communicated why to upload and maybe offer a default content if someone doesn't want to upload as i think many will drop out when the content upload pops up.

I had a good giggle! It's definitely got relevant subject matter and a nice interpretation of the theme. 5/5 Would pollute and oversaturate the market again! I think our jam entry currently perfectly fits the 'walking simulator' category of games you so hatefully elaborate upon in your description so I deserve extra points in shovelware-knighthood. Take notes people! Good job and keep 'em coming!

Great concept, not so great implementation (havent tried post-compo version, only rating the compo one). Having to upload files from my pc really bothered me, then i couldnt find the "game" reated inside this game. Really confusing, but it didnt really make it for me.

Even though, good job on finishing a game for compo!

So some tips if you want to see the whole game without real world consequences:

- You can post the secret link to your itch.io game if you don't want to *actually* publish it
- You can get past the social media part by providing any twitter or facebook link, actually.

That said... if you actually do those things you're a champion!

I am left speechless. This game is one of the most unique things I've seen on literally any game jam. I don't even know if there is anything that I can say bad about this, maybe except avoiding the real life changes being quite hard and cheaty.

Wait a minute. I think I've played that dentist game as someone's submission...

First I tried playing on FF but the view on the game page was too small and upload didn't work. Playing on itch worked fine.

I didn't get very far though since I didn't want to publish. But I really like the idea of games breaking out of their boundaries!

This...this...I have trouble critiquing this in any way. I guess I kind of wish Shovelware Knight and Co. bounced along to the music?

It's a wondrous idea and almost too perfectly executed to the point where I don't know if I'm in on the joke or *am* the joke.

Really good. I think. Not the dentist game though. That's not good. The dentist is good though.
