Under the Wheats by mrthee

[raw]
made by mrthee for LD 40 (COMPO)

... So this was originally supposed to be a take on the Great Emu War of 1932, from the side of the Emus. However, because I'm a madman that only works in 3D AND by himself, I instead created an Emu herding/breeding sim/rts-thing with procedurally-generated Emu names and titles. It lends itself nicely to morally questionable role-playing/family management.

Left-Click: select units. Right-Click: move units, consume wheat. Scroll-Wheel: zoom in/out. WASD: move camera.

If you see blue heart going out of an Emu, then it's ready to mate, just like in real life. Bring it close to another of the opposite gender to make a baby happen.

Cool game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz5gIdXHSCQ

This is a very fun game. I can see this becoming a very good game with a bit more work with the graphics and adding some music. Maybe add some enemies?

This was a simple yet relaxing game, had one or two features, rewards and whatnots and you have a great a game on your hands!

Animation is really good, I really like how they get fatter each time they eat. Might be nice to have the food regrow. Also the selection box is really nice

Fun little almost-RTS game. Starts out a bit slow until you start getting a good amount of emus going.

Duck/Goose/Emu simulator 2017. I was wondering when someone would make this. I agree with @phillserrazina that if rewards or something similar was implemented this would be a great game.

Sometimes when I clicked the Emus the selection didn't register. I loved the models, though!

Hilarious! I can hear a narration by David Attenborough in my head. At first I tried micromanaging different parties but finally just created a single big wheat-ganking goose orgy. Got up to 20. Nice work!

Though a little slow at the beginning,I felt very relax in this game.

But I think it's not good after zooming out too far,the names will cover the emus, and the good animations will miss.

Nice game, the features you did have time to add were solid, especially the art/animations. Would be very amusing to see emu wars!

Fun description, great menu visual. So fitting for the theme. It got hard to actually play after about 9 Emus, as they were so spread out. Moving the camera became very very slow, i had enough of the game by then.

Pretty complex features and nice visuals! With a bit more work on it, a atmosphere on the likes of this one: http://househou.se/goose/ would make it a really enjoyable and fun themed RTS.

Interesting, to say the least. I had quite a bit of fun playing this. I did have some trouble getting them to go where I wanted, especially to mate. Sometimes it seemed like the clicks just didn’t register if I was right-clicking on some of the Emus. I really like the eating animation for the Emus.

I think that the lack of background music had a great impact on their mating cycle :(

Jokes aside now - it is a nice game, has a feel of strategy game and I love strategy games (and never thought it would be possible to make one on LD!)

I like it, it looks great, it feel great, the controls feel natural to me and there is not much explanation required to play the game :) great job!
