Clidger by Mathiouza

[raw]
made by Mathiouza for LD 41 (COMPO)

Clidger is the clicker bullet hell !

The goal is to make the most points as possible ! To achieve that, you have to click on the ennemies to kill them and earn money. With this money, you will be able to buy upgrades for dealing more damage, getting more money or having auto-clickers !

But ennemies can shoot bullets which are letal for you. So you have to avoid them with the arrow keys.

This game was submitted for the 41st edition of the Ludum Dare, in the compo category.

Hope you will enjoy the game and thank you for playing ! ;)

I think this looks kinf of messy, but it's still playable and works fine. Overall you did a good job!

My first play was something like 1 second long XDD Really good game, but there should be skip button for intro and instructions

The enemies from the sides attacked to fast, and the tutorial repeated over and over. Just put me back in the action! You could have added a "Turn of tutorial" button. all in all, a pretty good game

overall this was alright, just dodging the enemies would have been enough multitasking for me though, adding bullets and off screen death on top of that was kinda overkill imo. maybe i'm getting old...

The score goes up fast when upgrading the multiplier. :) It was surprisingly difficult to move out of the way with the arrow keys. It is an exercise of doing two different thins at once. ^^

Nice game with nice music, I think controls are hard and when you know how to play everything is happening to slow...you have to wait for instructions every time.

Fun game, the idea is really well executed. My best distance was 14km. As for improvements, I would recommend adding support for WASD, as the mouse is used so heavily. Also, the rounding may need to be modified, as it could say I had 4M clicks when I really only had 3.7M or so, meaning it appeared to me that I could get a 4M upgrade when I couldn't. It may also be beneficial to allow for some of the transitions to be skipped or sped up. Overall, fantastic job!

Really like the idea!

I do think the combination of the screen being a bit too small and the speed of the bullets being too fast makes the game feel a bit unfair at times, but that's really a minor point. Also someone else already mentioned this, but the tutorial did get annoying after the first time since you have to wait for a couple of seconds every time you restart.

Overall though a cool idea and a fun game!

Of all the games I have tried so far, this is the one I have played the most times before rating. Certainly interesting. tricky to get the hang of but I can imagine with some practice it's possible to get pretty good at it. My only real problem with it was that the speed of the ship made it very difficult to simultaneously look out for the enemies, their bullets and trying to collect points and not collide with anything or go off the edge of the screen. perhaps more time for balancing would solve this?
Certainly one of the stronger games I have played so far.

Holy crap I'm not a bullet hell player, I rarely survived the first 4 enemies so I couldn't really use the shop or other features of the game. I like the graphics and feel of the game and the gameplay is solid although way too difficult for me. Good job!

I enjoyed this game Alot!

Nice aesthetics and Very good polish!

However Money becomes obsolete quickly, if you start upgrading just money multiplier.

This is one of the better ones that I have played today, but man oh man do you need to add WASD support. It was painful to play with the arrows and the mouse. I finally started to get used to it, but it took a while. Love the concept and the execution, WASD please!

Took some time getting used to spam click and maneuver with the arrow keys. The dangers with clickers game, I played way to long :P
It felt polished and was fun to play.

Good idea backed up with good graphics and music! I think the down time in between runs might be a bit high for how short a run can be though, going through slow menus can be quite frustrating when you just want to get back into the game.

The game is a pretty cool concept and one I wanted to play more, but I had two issues that made this game feel irritating. First is that this game crashed a lot, making it difficult to make any progress in the game. It always crashes on the menu, and usually after about 5 rounds, though I've had it happen sooner. Second, the ship controls are way too fast, and I ended up killed myself too much by moving down to far even on a quick tap; it might have been less frustrating if the bottom of the screen just stopped the player instead of killing them.

Really well done. You know a Ludum Dare entry is good when it's actually fun to play, and this is fun. My only gripe is that the enemies are a bit too difficult. They shoot too fast. Great work. I enjoyed it.

Reminds me of those flash games where you get infinite tries but u get more and more gold every time, progressing slowly, i like it. Only major complaint is the slow transitions between the shop and in-game, and between the death to shop. This game has great potential and can scale really well like a good clicker game. Also I like the attention to detail in the shop, how higher level upgrades spin faster

This was really fun but hard to play at first. I felt like the ship controls were very slippery and I got stuck at getting around 300k points per round and had a hard time progressing past that because the next level items were so expensive. It needs some balancing but I think this game has a lot of potential!

Interesting game. Had a hard time reorienting my self to the controls. Used to using WASD to move if I'm using the mouse to aim at anything.

Qqqqquite the interesting blend of genres you decided on! Ultimately, it feels a lot more like a regular shooter with many upgrade options... but I get the direction you were going for. The extra clickers seem rather... what exactly do they do? They sit outside of the play area, not doing anything... Best way to play seemed to be to simply spam money bonus and pickup range, then you'll earn tons even if you end up killing just one enemy.

All in all, a rather tough game, but not bad overall in execution. Well done~

@justinooncx Thanks for the feedback. Clickers make damage to all of the enemy on the screen. But if you want that is efficient, you need a lot of them ^^

I do not think all of the others will see this comment, but thank you all, I will improve the game in the future, thanks to your feedbacks ^^

Thank you again :)

Gameplay is really fun and the upgrade system is a great addition! My only complaints are not being able to move with WASD and little too slow text speed. But other than that, great job (as usual)!

Really cool game. The only thing I'd like to complain is, that the time between the level and the menu is too long, like @pohead12345 said. But it's a pretty cool idea and well done. It's seems that you spent a lot of time into details, I like that.

@Mathiouza Were you using an engine of sorts?
🎤 Mathiouza
24. Apr 2018 · 21:28 UTC
No, i'm using my own engine, made with lwjgl 3. I may found something ... Does a .sh is an executable for Linux ? I can not test that on my computer, but I think if I make this executable, with the correct instruction for my Java runnable file, and then I add all the binary files of lwjgl for linux, it could be good. no ?

First clicker game I've ever played where you can get a game over! You totally hit the theme! Fun and innovative take on it. Having to keep up with the scrolling, keep yourself in a safe spot, dodge, and click all at once makes for hectic fun.

As for negatives: Pretty much gonna echo the others here. Side enemies killed me nearly every time instantly, and the instructions felt like they should have been a seperate screen.

.sh is a comparable to .bat files in Windows, so not directly an executable. Any file, so long as it has permission to run and is correctly compiled, as far as I'm aware, can be run on most Linux systems. As for the details on the binaries, I can't help you there, but would be willing to test it for you.

Thanks to devote yourself for testing, but I am testing with virtualbox to install linux on the virtual machine, I will mention you if I manage to run my game on the virtual machine. That is quite complex for me, so ... it might take time ^^' @Blinkenlights

So it may works for linux (if you have a x32 system, it is sure that you can't, but x64 maybe). You can download the jar build for linux and run with the command `java -jar run.jar` where you unzip the dowloaded file. @Blinkenlights tell me if it is working, I'm curious because I installed a x32 version of Linux mint ... And I have not the binary for x32 lwjgl. Genious !

Thank you for helping me though :)

You die quickly. That's alright, but it would be nice if you can get back into the game quicker. The gameover screen and the score listing take up a lot of time when you want to get back into the game again.

Great use of the theme, but it's unfairly hard. The bullets come at you way too fast and it doesn't make sense to kill the player at the bottom of the screen. It also takes a really long time to restart playing with the game over and intro animations that play every time. I like the graphics and audio though.
