Harvest And Extract by Kthulhu1947
I've made it for the Compo. So it's all by myself, graphics and code in just 48 hours. Actually, it took me about 12 hours because of the sleeping, the family and all that stuff... I'm really happy about my game. It's my second Ludum Dare project. But it's my first complete project with menu, levels and an end.
Your job is to harvest oil all around the world. Arrow keys to move, d key to drill, t key to teleport to another place/world, e key to extract the precious final energy source. You have to do this without "Running out of Power" ;-)
Enjoy.

After reading all the comments and having a lot of thoughts, here's a few things I’d love to do if I had more time :
- make the terrain increase or not the cost move
- add barbarian units or wild animals to stop my progression
- add a gun to shoot the barbarian and the wild ;-)
- work more on the teleport animation with transition screen and teleport on the new map
- adjust a little more the oil spawn to get the game harder
- adjust the spawn (oil and extra elements) in relation to your actual power level to get the game more challenging

From my last thoughts and my new thoughts... ;-) I made a version 2.0 of my game.

1. Thing to learn is this Game, dont use the teleport skill at the bottom of the map :D
But for being your second Ludum dare, Well done! And keep up the work ^^
**Overall game impression:** Really cool. The main menu looks absolutely beautiful while also being minimalistic. The Graphics overall are very pleasant and easy on the eyes which is a plus. Quite enjoyable game honestly but gets repetitive quickly as there's not much variation to game play. I do like the teleporting between planets and actually having to explore the environment around you. Very good overall.
**Suggestions and comments on improvement:** Adjust the sounds. The engine / drilling sound is on repeat nonstop and gets annoying fairly fast. The teleportation animation takes too long, can be cut in half and be fine.
Overall A great game.
p.s. thanks for checking out my game as well. Appreciate it. Well done on your game.
Exploring games are great. I love having to discover what is behind the fog. This exploration game was very enjoyable for me.
Graphics were consistent and decent.
Sounds were good but too repetitive.
Overall very nice game !
The teleport animation looks great :D
I found a little bug though. You can overflow the energy bar and block some of the ui.
It was a lot of fun to explore the worlds, but constantly mashing the arrow keys was a bit annoying. It would be nice if you could hold the key to move the harvester (slowly).
The sound was a bit repetitive, but it was not bad.
Nice!
I'll have to say, your game should be on the theme of "Too much power" as it was very easy to just get loads of energy.
The exploration was lovely, except for the continuous clicking of the keyboard. :D
Liked it.
My only regret? Teleporting from the bottom of the map .
Overall this is a good game. I would have liked to see a little bit more difficulty since I ended up not having to worry about power at all. Though... at the same time that might be what made it so tranquil.
Also, I wonder if background music would have added to this game? Hmm... Maybe I should go for a second round with some classical music.
Either way, well done. It was fun exploring the various biomes and harvesting all the oil.
Just to let you know, you can way overfill your power bar + you can go diagonal when you press two keys at once (it neeeds its timing but it can be done).
Also, I think this was intentional but teleporting is kind of pain in the ass when you do it at the bottom :P
I need to commend using of something else than Unity or sth like that, always a nice thing to see :)

So for the review.
__Graphics:__ I liked your style. It felt consistent throughout and wasn't off-putting.
__Audio:__ Here I must say I felt some shortcomings. SFX got very annoying after some time, but I would adress this to not perfect sound system. If you could work more on it, it would have been surely better as many problems I had personally originated with when audio was played (it was quite inconsistent and damaged my experience). Also, music - I can't stress this enough in most games I played. Music really builds up an atmosphere, even when it is some atmospheric noise track or something.
__Gameplay:__ Well, I didn't found much of a challenge in this one and think it is lacking something. Other than that, game played nicely.
__Overall:__ This game has really some nice graphics. Although there could have been done more in the sound departnment and more content gameplay wise, I can imagine that was quite hard to manage in 48h along with the engine (at least it seems you've done some, correct me if I'm wrong). Anyway, I had some fun with this one :)
You should have put a limit on the max amount of energy, the bar goes over the limit and towards the end it was literally out of the screen :D
By the way, these are my scores:

At the beginning i pressed teleport without knowing what it did, and towards the end I had so much energy that I was ignoring completely the resources.
Absolutely wonderful job if you took only 12 hours in making this. I don't know if I would have succeeded in that short time :D
I hate to say it, but I think for me this game was lacking in some sort of element to make playing through it interesting. Running out of fuel never really seemed like a risk, so completing each map was just a matter of going through the motions of methodically exploring it without much strategy or necessity to particularly pay attention.
Judging from your list of "things I’d love to do", it seems like you've already thought of some ideas of how you could make it engaging. I think if some of those were implemented, then I would have found this game more enjoyable.
I liked:
The Graphics: They weren't the most high quality, but you did a lot of different stuff that got the point across. Overall I thought that game was interesting to look at.
The Sound FX: The sound effects were cool in that it made it feel like a classic ascii type game with a sort of industrial futuristic vibe.
I didn't like:
The Gameplay: Now I did like the idea of finding oil and exploring, but it felt a bit incomplete. It was kind of easy and simple, and I would have liked to have seen something more challenging or more dynamic (the barbarians you mentioned is a great idea).
Overall, really solid entry. Good luck!
