Battle Hearts! by Barrier

[raw]
made by Barrier for LD 44 (COMPO)

If you get a black screen in Chrome, do this: Chrome -> Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Enable Hardware Acceleration

You are a space BLOB with 7 hearts, no hands and the evil Blobs are coming for you! But don't worry! Your hearts turn into guns!

DragToStart.gif But don't leave them out for too long! They need to go back inside your body to recharge.

You can also sell your hearts for increased firepower SellHeart5.gif

And don't pull out your last heart! LastHeart.gif

Full playthrough video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBATXREdROw

Probably best if you play the HTML5 version or download the windows version. Android works but it probably won't be very playable on a small screen. Unity project is not structured very well and the code started getting really hacky :>

destroying enemies have never been easier, you just drag a heart in the way of the enemy and sadly the hearts run out too easily, but recharging is always possible

Pretty fun. Got to 256 haha. Loved it. I would recommend maybe adding bosses or make more types of enemies. Apart from that, loved every part of it. Well done man :)

This idea is great ! I like the mix with tower/defense/shooter, but i think difficulty need to be more progressive. Good job ! Simple and funny !

@nitropictures @aret24 Did you move hearts back in the body to recharge them?

@shakierheart53 yeah, I started doing some boss type enemy, it's the big one that spawns little ones, but to add really distinct and meaningfull bosses I would probably run out of time. Maybe for the full version if it ever happens :)

Oh my goodness! I got destroyed my first game. The next few I did okay. I would love to see move variety in there. Overall a nice game.

A very fun and innovative game, but rather hard for me.

This is such a silly concept, I really like it! The audio starts to get a bit repetitive after a bit, though it isn't too annoying. Good job!

This game is great!
My only criticism is that it is hard to see the color change from full red to almost depleted.

Fun little game, cool idea for a defence game. Maybe got a bit tedious dragging them in and out after the counter reached higher and higher, but I had fun, good work!

@tractorfarm yeah, I realized too late that it might be a problem for some people, especially for color blind.

Haha! What a fun game! Loved the art and sound effects, it was a bit a bit hard seeing the colour change but nothing too terrible. Great entry.

it was a little hard to play without a mouse but the idea is very cool. It's more "your life is weapon" :) Loved the sounds, the drag action and the very idea that your lives are inside of you. Nice!

Wow, what a unique mechanic!!! I like the risk-reward and strategy around it. I think this idea has a lot of potential behind it.

Also, the characters are so cute and funny and the sound complements them soooo well. BTW I enjoyed background music so much. This humming is so simple but it adds so much to the game. And when you are low on life the added sounds increase the tension.

Really great game! 10/10

This is such a simple concept, but it's surprisingly fun to play and a really innovative twist on the defence game concept. The music was a little irritating after a while and you could have really done with a slightly longer sample, but it does have that great 'made in a weekend' charm to it too. Graphics weren't anything too special, the game could have really benefited from some more 'juice' and feedback, as an example I hadn't even noticed for quite a while that I had lost a couple of hearts from getting swarmed, something simple like a bit of screenshake, or even just a sound effect would have gone a long way to helping.

You've clearly got potential as a game developer as you have a great mechanic here, and you've implemented it well (the game feels nicely balanced with just the right level of challenge) so I hope you continue to refine your skills and keep making games!

Thank you for submitting your game to my stream, I'm sorry I couldnt play it live, but its a super fun one. The concept is simple but man is it ever enjoyable. Keeping track of your hearts and trying to keep your lil blob smiling is a super engaging game loop.
You get ten *pews* out of ten.

This was super fun to play. Great idea and sounds. I liked the simple background noise you made :D

Only thing i can say is changing the spawning mechanics a little bit, maybe not every one of them spawn at the same time.
