The Goodwill Of Gods by Kromzem

[raw]
made by Kromzem for LD 43 (JAM)

Your time has come! You are the chosen one helping Zeus defeat Hades! But this time Zeus is being poisoned by Hades and so he is not able to act without some sacrifices... But that's exactly where you can shine as a loyal believer! Sacrifice everything you may find around you and help Zeus succeed!

Attention: Like every good Boss, Hades gets more strength if he gets low on health! So be prepared for this!

This is my (Kromzem) 2nd Ludum Dare Jam Entry but it's the first entry I made with my wife (Manti) <3 We both were brave enough to try something new to us, so she was learning how to pixel and I was learning how to use Unity. But we can say: Our jam went pretty well and we are both proud of what we made. We hope you enjoy our game and leave a kind comment ;)

Pretty solid and fun little game.
It looks good overall, except the cut off head of the main dude, which bothers the crap outta me :D, but on the other hand, the animals are really cute :3 and the particle effects look awesome.
The music sounds good and is fitting, but the short loop started to annoy me at the end, also the harvest sound is way too loud compared to everything else
The gameplay overall is pretty fun, the movement feels good, the controls are not complicated and you can easily understand what to do (*cough* normally)
The theme has been implemented well in the game as main goal, but when I've read the theme myself, I more thought of making sacrifices to get advantages or such (like Devil Deals in Isaac), but well, it's eachs own interpretation to translate the theme.
A big problem for me is the difficulty of the game, it's way too easy. I had no problems beating it at all. I did 3 playthroughs, the first one was a failure, because I didn't really understand what to do >.> I just gathered as much food and brought it to the altar, but didn't press 1, 2 or 3, because I simply forgot that part xD But then I went through the controls again and seen what I have to do. At my second run then I started gathering 10 food, then sacrificing it for damage at first and later for 50/50 and won without a problem. At my third run then I just stacked up the food at the altart and finished the whole thing in one single attack. Death overall isn't really a big punishment, you don't lose much and can just start over again instantly, which is not a problem at all, since you run as fast as Sonic :D
My suggestions to improve the easy difficulty a bit would be:
To make a percentage damage cap, which increases the more you sacrifice at once, so you can't just one hit Hades and don't get punsished by increasing difficulty by lower boss health.
To increase the difficulty on a big amount of food on the altar as well.
To punish death more, like a short death timer, a damage burst to Zeus or losing half of the food stored at the altar.
But well that's just me being picky over some small poor gamedesign choices, the game still is fun to play and thus does it's job as a game ;)

A good game. I would have liked the mouse be used for attacks and harvesting instead of E and numbers just because it would easier to click on those in my opinion. Also, a bar that tells you when you are ready to sacrifice would have been nice. I think it does tell you but a bar that shows how close you are would have sped things up for at least myself. I definitely enjoyed the game. I played it three times!

Very frantic! Needed to keep on the run the whole time to dodge trees and avoid those flaming pits! Took me a few tries, but I finally got it. Art is nice, though some of the items could use a little bit of contrast (dark berries are hard to see on the dark bushes) or up their size a little bit (some of the small things that pop out of the pots) so that I can better plan my path. Nice work team

Challenging, intense game! I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/aRIyiUZY0TQ

Really funny little game. It's fun and it works well. The fireballs are fast enought to get the player in tension, it keep my mind busy during the play. There is something to dig in the differents actions de player can make with the sacrifices, but it's still very good for a jam. Good jab !

Nice playable game. Took me a long time to realize I had to go to the center to make a sacrifice, I had almost given up playing when I finally figured it out. Wish I could just sacrifice by being near the altar, rather than having to press E first, because even 2 button presses is often enough to get hit by the attack.

Cool game. The art style fit the game well, but the repeating of the floor tiles is a bit too obvious. Maybe you could create create some variations of the grass and mix it up. Same for the soundtrack, which is quite short and repeats often (the volume balance is also a bit off). But these are just minor nitpicks, the game is great.
