A First Person Match-3 game

"Shoot" a cube to select it, "shoot" its neighbor (left/right/front/back/up/down) to switch between them, match 3+ to destroy them. When a new layer is about to appear below the level, if you or a cube would be crushed by the ceiling it's game over.

Controls

  • W/S/A/D - move
  • Fire1 (Left Mouse Button / Left Ctrl) - select/flip
  • Esc - quits instantly

Visually pleasing and has really good sound design. I think you should be able to move the cubes over even if there is an empty space instead of just swapping the colors, otherwise the board gets divided up into these awkward unsolvable squares. Good stuff though, I also made a [match 3 fps](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/shooting-stars-fps-match-3-in-space), I like my gameplay style more, but I think your assets and sound design are much better.

This is my new favorite way to experience a match-3 style game, great work!!!

I was definitely feeling pretty claustrophobic by the end there

Pretty good! I thought the concept was unique and fun. I also realized that I am shit at match 3 games.

Minor complaints though:
I feel every FPS game needs a sensitivity slider.
The walls could use some more detail. Right now they are kinda bland.
Sound effect for switching two blocks?

All in all, this game was one of the better ones I have seen so far! well done. ;)

@creepyounguy thanks for your comment. I tried to think about some way to enable moving blocks to empty spaces, but without sacrificing the swap mechanics (which I like because it makes things harder than if I allowed any two blocks to be swapped) but I've ran out of time so I didn't implement it :( (At least I've managed to draw some nice cubes on Blender, almost at the end of the Jam)

I've seen a post of yours on the LD blog, my first thought being "hey, someone else had the same idea-ish!"... I'll play it right now :)

@Bodaciouslycrazy Thanks! I had the same complaints/thoughts (mainly the sensitivity), but I had no time to do it for the jam. I think I'll try to these and other things on my free time and then upload to Gamejolt or something.

very addicting, surprised you managed to finish it instead of just "play testing" the whole jam

It work really well, the fact to be in first person change the overall perspective of the game, it's very pleasant to walk around a "tower" to see if you can make a cube navigate to a specific point or just to know what color there is!
Strangely, even the fact that some cube are hidden and unknow add a layer in the game !

You give an other "perspective" (lol) in the mecanics like the destruction of cube wich then isolate some cube from another
And the little detail like the cube who fall down and/or the fx give a soul of this simple game. Really like it !

This was a nice point of view on a traditional genre. The only issue I had with it is that I often ended up falling into holes but that's not that big of a deal. Really well executed idea. Good job :)

WELL DONE! It would be great if the ceiling was a hologram of some sort so you could go through it and not be crushed against the ceiling. Overall, really cool idea, well done.

Nice submission! I love the 3d tetris-like idea. I've never been huge on the unity built in first person character controller prefab, but for a game jam game (especially one focusing on puzzle elements rather than combat) it makes sense.

Trash compactor! As noted, I played HTML on mac via Safari and was pretty slow whenever the cubes were thinking, but otherwise moved around well- Love the concept! Really great Jam! Thanks for the game!

A really interesting way to play a match three game. I like being able to examine the puzzle from different angles and I'm sure getting all this working took some work. The movement controls felt a tad bit floaty but that isn't a big deal. Nice work (and a fitting name).

Lovely little game! If expanded upon with levels/goals and maybe some ability to move blocks over (even if it was a limited ability so it didn't break the match-3 aspect) I would totally play for hours. Good job!

It's very interesting, but probably needs a little more to tell the player what to do. You should also add a way to deselect a block

I would be very glad if [you review my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/last-stand-1) :mag:

@weekend-panda you've described the same idea I had after the jam: some limited ability to pull blocks, maybe earned by making N matches or something. Without it, the game is too hard, with unlimited pulls it became too easy. (I'm trying to make it better in my free time)
