It's Our Last Stand by derpylz

[raw]
made by derpylz for LD 44 (COMPO)

You are what is left of the Grey Goo, a mass of nano particles with a swarm intelligence.

ld44.gif

Your enemies will wipe you out, so try to stay alive as long as possible.

While they are approaching you, the enemy forces will constantly shoot at the mother goo in the center. You loose, once the mother goo has no mass left.

Defend the mother goo by launching lumps of yourself (bloblets) towards the enemy. Click anywhere on the map to launch a bloblet. Be careful, this will sacrifice some of the mass.

Bloblets will hunt down up to two enemies and transform them into grey goo mass, healing the mother goo.

If enemies detect a fallen comrade being consumed, they will stop shooting at the mother goo and instead go to destroy the remains and the bloblet.

The game is written in Javascript using the HTML canvas. The music was composed on a Kawai stage piano and a Teenage Engineering PO-33 KO and mixed using Magix Acid Pro 8. All animated sprites were created in Blender.

Slightly different take on the last stand/horde theme - 48 seconds was the best I could manage. Fitting music and decent graphics. Thumbs up!

@victorcrafty Ha, yes, when you figure out the way to approach it, the game becomes easy. I just hope it takes a few times for most to find it out

after 40 seconds. The first thing that caught my attention was the vehicle with which this game was delivered. A custom website, dedicated for the game. A+
The content is all very detailed from the story, to the music (v nice job) and the graphics. I still don't quite understand how you animated the mother goo, but alas it is a nice animation.
The coolest part is the concept, which I don't think I've explored fully so I will have to come back and try again later. But at the moment I can still say the mechanics are interesting, and I'd like to know if anyone has survived for over a minute...

@michael-feldman Thanks a lot for playing and for your review! I created all animations for the game by creating a model in blender, animating it and exporting the frames as pngs, then stitching them together and looping over the frames in the javascript of the game. The mother goo is actually an ocean simulation applied to a half-sphere

Spoiler ahead: It is possible to survive longer than a minute. It is even possible to win the game! Might take a couple tries until you figure out the best strategy

Great job, @derpylz! You nailed the theme, and I loved the concept, the intro, the music, and the gameplay mechanic. I tried hard but I couldn't get past 44 seconds, I bookedmarked it though so I can come back. ;)
