Blood Farm is my Submission for the Ludum Dare #44 Game Jam.

Controls:

WASD - Movement

1, 2 - Plant Respective seeds

Q - Water Plants

E - Talk to Vlad, the not-so-friendly seed shopkeeper

Space - Attack

Mouse - Controlling menu options

In Blood Farm you play as Garlic Gary, a zealous garlic farmer who desperately wanted to branch out. Garlic Gary decided to cheap out on buying additional plots of land to farm garlic on, and instead started planting it in the gardens of abandoned houses.

One of these houses wasn't abandoned, and contained a vampiric resident with a distaste for Gary's practice. He caught Gary and forced him to work by making him farm blood from the mysterious plants the vampire showed him. But Gary quickly found out how much harder this type of gardening is, compared to garlic farming.

Unfortunately I didn't make the sound effects myself, so I can't upload this as a Compo, and well, I'm too tired to fix that.

Very original idea, would be cool if there were walking animations. Really like the idea of the plants becoming monsters

Quite interesting, I needed to get used to where hit boxes were, but after that it was quite interesting.
Also to make it cleer if player hit enemy or not add some particle effects or sound.

Just needs a little polish around the edges but other than game "feel" features, like more animations, additonal graphic features, the game is enjoyable.

Good gameplay mechanics there but I struggled with figuring out if I was watering a seed or not. But with a little more improvement, I think it could be a fun game. Great job!

Fun game. Very competitive and hard. Will be cool to have high score how long you survived or so.

I think if you didn't create sound you can still submit as compo but with sounds optioned out.

Movement could be a bit more polished (walking animation, better collision detection). Really like the Vlad shop user interface!

I liked it, it seems a bit hard to play in the beginning. Tutorial would have maybe helped. I like the concept a lot, also the visual style and audio.

The audio feedback was spot on! If you threw in a way to score points it could be more interesting to see how long you could last.

Fun game, although I didn't quite understand some of the gameplay, I wasn't really sure what i was supposed to do with the crops once I'd planted and watered them. Also maybe a backing soundtrack would be nice?

Very interesting ! The theme is very well used. The graphics are beautiful, especially the monsters' ones but as MoonLens said above, it would have been great to have a walking animation for Gary. I don't see the interest of buying the second type of seed, it costs more, needs more blood to grow, has a long range attack that is more dangerous than the first monster's one and doesn't give more blood. Talking of Vlad's interface, it would have been better to see the blood you are going to give him been "highlighted" in your health bar, one time I gave him too much blood and I died... The game at the end is unfinishable, Vlad's thirst bar emptying so fast that you can't even walk a second to collect blood without angering him. I although had a great time playing and the game is very interesting, well done !

Interesting implementation of the theme. Could really do with some long-term goal or scoring system.

Nice game, I enjoyed it.
I think the characters (Vlad and Gary) could be a little more detailed in terms of graphics. The flowers look very nice! Maybe make clear how much we're giving to Vlad in relation to our current health?
Can you actually defend yourself against the swarm of bats that come for you when Vlad's thirsty? I didn't survive long enough to try.
