Supermarket Blues by mightymarcus

[raw]
made by mightymarcus for LD 40 (COMPO)

It's no fun to work at a supermarket, neither is playing to work at a supermarket fun.

screenshot.png

Game coded with the Haxe Toolkit (Haxe 3.4.4) and the OpenFL Framework (version 6.5.1)

The game was only tested on Windows10 and it worked in all major browsers. But I saw it on my friends computer. He has Linux and the framerate was only like 30FPS. So if its very slow, than that was not expected.

This is great man, real decent interpretation to theme. Love the people mumbling sound. ^_^

Everybody hates me even before they get in a line, hahaha

A really nice idea and fun mechanic!

It is an original take on the theme. The graphics are amusing and effective. Perhaps it can be used for training people at my local Aldi.

Really cool mechanic very good use of the theme and the art is pretty good, very cool pixel art, the only thing I missed was a song but besides that it is an awesome game, pretty good job !

I thought: hey, why do my game has such good ratings? But it was not the ratings, it just was the count of the ratings. ;D

You say it's not fun either, but it actually is! :D
I found myself trying really long to get faster, but I wanted to see the angry reaction and the game over condition, so I got myself fired ;)
Really nice game =)

Yes, for Keyboard-Soldiers it is too easy. :) Got 60€ and quit my job, because my fingers where hurting. :)

And I think there are too many blue candles. And too less different people. And it should be in some way rewarding.
But it really was a nice weekend. Should have used 10 hours more on that.

This game might as well have been a simulator of some of my former job experiences. A wonderfully fun game that was obviously made by someone who knows the pain of working retail. In summary good job.

Thanks friends. Glad to hear. I was standing before the supermarket, drinking a beer. And I was thinking about the theme and then I asked the supermarket worker. She told me, for her it would be too many customers. And I thought, hey, that's a good idea. And I wanted to make it more social critical, but too less time. :)

And now I go to the supermarket and drink another beer. :)

Great game! Fitting the theme, and fun to play. I like that the items has the same pattern every time, so the more you play, the faster you actually get. Nice touch! I lost it when a guy came up smiling wanted to buy three dildos insisting on calling them "blue candles", haha. Really solid entry, would have loved some muzak in the background though.

Nice entry! It reminds me of those dance games few years back. nice execution. Loved the graphics and sound effects. Gameplay was very smooth and polished. Good job!

Great game, love the fact its in essence like our game, but imo way better executed! Honest 2 feedback points,

1. The fact that the "controls" are limited to a really small segment of the game view, really limits the player's view of whats happening around you. My suggestion would be scale the whole thing up and move it to a more central feel.

2. Audio cues are cool, but the visual change isn't "that obvious" especially when taking point 1 in consideration. We tricked this issue by making the "clients" have multiple very obvious distinct visual state and exposed the timer bar.

Also... sure sure that's a "blue candle" yes yes.... xD

Not really. ;) And your points are very comprehensible.

Very nice concept.

One thing I thought could improve is that the arrow indicators should be better integrated in the game and not just sit out at the far right coz I couldn't look at all the nice art and setting as I was too busy focusing on the keys.

That's right. But I don't think it's nice art. It's like programmer art. But thank you nevertheless. Maybe I try to make a bigger game and try not to be ashamed making the graphics myself. :D

I'm curious about the ratings ... :)

Cool concept. It felt really satisfying to scan the items.

I think one thing they could have helped would have been to add a progression system. Maybe by starting with fewer items and thus giving the player a chance to learn the combinations for them.

Great entry!

There is an invisible progression system. But that's too random. At the beginning, there are less people. But if you have no luck, then there is one man with 30 items. But that's real life. :)

Main goal of the game was to show, how unpleasant it is to make that job. I wanted to make something critical about our society. I saw one man playing. He laughed. :)

Only 3 euros and 8 cents... :pensive: Nice game ! Could be nice to have a super-cliché music for the supermarket

A very enjoyable game but I'm biased becasue I will like anything that barely resembles a rhythm game :D The game could have benefited from some generic music in the background. Other than that great submission!

I missed an indicator (other than mumbling clients) that I was doing well or not, but it was fun to play. Oh, and I have to say that those "candles" are a little horny, in my opinion. :P

Mhm. Maybe I had to remove the candles. But I like candles. Because it's christmas time ...
