You’re a candle in a maze and you escape from a human during a blackout. In order to see through the maze you need to sacrifice yourself and light your wick with matches. But if you want to see more, you need to melt more! You can find more matches and spilled wax to gain your health back along the way.

Controls:

'E': Ignite,

'1','2','3','4': Increase your intensity while ignited,

'E' while ignited: extinguish your fire,

Have fun!!

Wow, it's like Don't Starve but without survival elements. I like the concept of sacrificing candle liquid in order to get more light to navigate through maze. :)

Excellent use of theme, and great presentation. I did find the html5 version of the game a bit not fun, got stuck on walls etc, but not bad!

Enjoyed playing the game nice graphics, theme and mood. only feedback would be sometimes it was hard on the browser to make a turn around a corner and maybe the scream at the start was a little to loud Rip headphone users :). overall it was an amazing experience :)

Clever idea for a game!
I wish the controls were taught over a larger span of time; I had to play it a couple of times in order to understand how to properly use 1, 2, 3 and 4.
I also wish the floor was a little bit more clear in terms of contrast, sometimes I thought I could walk one way only to realize the path didn't connect.

I really did like the idea though! The candle was also really charming- His face made me chuckle when I saw him!
Audio is also very well made- although needs some volume adjustments.

Good job on this project- it's definitely something to be proud of!
Good luck on your future projects!

Also a huge thanks for playing our game "Shortcut to Game-Dev Success", doing so helped me find your project :D

I had a lot of fun! The game is very creative and the art is looking superb. I really like how you got to sacrifice yourself to light up the area to find your way. One problem I found was when I try to turn around the corner the player would often get stuck and get I would lose the game. But overall I think the game fit the theme very well and is a very fun game.

Cool game! Way more fast paced than i originally thought, i like it!
One suggestion is to make the player slide through the walls, got a little stuck once in a while, but nothing major.

Ha! I love this game. It's nicely paced, the graphics are fun and the music fits it all to a T. Also when you get caught, I had to laugh at the text you get. For a first LD, this was definitely a hit. Looking forward to your next one. :-)

I don't have a qwerty keyboard so it's very hard for me to play this game. Try to give the player options between WASD/ZQSD/arrows when it's possible (it's possible with your game).

Other than that, it's a fun game, the graphics are good, the sound design is well-done, you integrated the theme into your gameplay mechanics, congrats :)

Nice contribution, I wondered how many dead ends can a maze have... I think I visited all of them. Good job

Well done! Good game with nice graphics. Really like the melting idea. I struggled a bit finding where I was meant to and got a bit stuck but it's a really cool game overall!

Good work! The texture for the wooden floor is confusing though, since some of the gaps in the floor look like little walls(because they are dark).

Nice entry ! Very creative, fun and challenging.
A suggestion though : it can be very frustrating to be blocked at a turn because you are not perfectly aligned with the corridor you wish to go through, so maybe you could add some sort of slide to make it more permissive ?

Is this a new Beauty and the Beast reboot? Because I'd watch that.

I really like it when people at the LD make simple, to-the-point concepts, that are very easy to get instead of trying too hard to be clever. The use of the sacrifice theme is quite clear in this project, and it makes up for very appealing gameplay. Sacrificing for just a bit more of visibility is something I'm yet to see, which I applaud.

The animations and music are great, and the effects are very atmospheric. My only complain would be that, in comparison, the yelling at the start felt very loud, even though it was quite funny. But it wasn't a big inconvenience.

Anyhow, fantastic work there. [My team](discord.whalesandgames.com) salutes your cleverness. Keep up the good work! :whale:

Very well made. I have just one suggestion. I do not like that the walls are "sticky", meaning that one can not move up if there is a wall on the right side while you also press that direction. This makes the player get stuck in some cross sections in stressful situations. But good game!

Hey,

I appreciate the idea but some fact triggerd me
Your game is well realised for a first participation in Jam.
But (perhaps I'm wrong) there is no good end.
The collision are oppresive (because the path is very tiny).

If you want more 'comfort' for non qwerty user, think to use the arrow key for movement.
