Don't Crush Me by Thirrash

made by Thirrash for LD 38 (JAM)

Have you ever wondered why your keys on keyboard are constantly being blocked? No? Don't worry, you will get your answer anyway!

Every roach knows that the most important thing is to find a safe place to live. Your roach-friends told you to first consider well-hidden locations. Unfortunately, it turns out that keyboard is not the best home in the world. Still, you have to survive in this harsh environment when key-ceiling is constantly trying to crush you.

In the game, you control such a roach and try to survive. Block keys by collecting and throwing fragments of food and ultimately render keyboard useless. Your roach-friends will try to help you but beware - their throwns will stun you if you get hit by accident.

It's a bit hard to tell which keys are coming down, other than that great job.

The use of transparency here is really well done. The sounds create a very realistic atmosphere and I feel like I am a little bug in someones untidy bedroom. There are a lot of roaches living in this keyboard. Its nice to know I can really help out my colony and find motivation in their day to day struggle. Although I am not sure why they want to destroy the keyboard. My only complaint is that I found the movement a bit slow. I think it could be a bit faster. Good show!

Cool concept! Very nice looking game. It was a bit hard to actually see where a key would land though, so perhaps also show at the bug-level where to keep out. It was quite hard too. But in general very enjoyable game.

Very good idea. It is difficult to know exactly which key is the one that is going down.

Gross, but a clever concept.

I got up to 30 points on my last run. I think they could use a bit better turning so I'm not jammed into the edge for a few seconds. It is also fairly random if a key will come down. I think it would of been very neat to see the keys in use be based on percentage of how often that letter may be used. That space bar would be slamming down constantly haha.

A fun concept, but the orthographic projection makes it difficult to tell which key you're under, and therefore where you need to run to when a key starts to come down. I couldn't manage to wrap my head around it, so I never got very far. Also, the camera really freaks out whenever the game-over screen appears.

Nice game !
I liked this idea, it is actually great, and graphics are pretty nice !
Controls are a bit harsh in my opinion though, and the roach is too slow !
There are times when you see the key coming down, and still can do anything about it !
But you managed to put even a mini game in this so i'd like to call it a complete game !
Maybe it lacked a bit of music of more accurates sound effects (i liked the slow motion key down sound effect though)

Good job anyway !

very cool graphics and idea! Steering is a bit confusing and cumbersome, but otherwise very nice execution!

Cool looking game I like the idea. The letters seem to be off some of the buttons though.

I liked the graphics and the multiplayer. It's nice to see a 2-player game since we are a two-man team!! Great job!

I really like the game art despite the gameplay has some problems like not having a safe zone to start and being a bit difficult to see which key is going down and when.
But yeah, cool art and the multiplayer part is awesome. Good job!

The graphics are so well done on this one! I don't think the perspective particularly helps, because I got confuse sometimes under which key I was under... The idea is very nice and unique, and the transparency was really well thought too.

Who wouldn't like to be a cocroche? Great game, transparency is little annoying, but needed.
