World of WarPETS - LD41 by neuronezero

[raw]
made by neuronezero for LD 41 (JAM)

Experience the Awe of battleship-size gun turrets mounted on the backshell of a giant sea turtle. Fight against the mighty Castle Crab filled with deadly mortars.

At this point in dev, I'm really going for the concept and that's it.

Find out about all the other creatures that populates this world by giving some interest to the concept. Octopus with hand-(tentacle-)grenades, shark with torpedoes, hermitcrab with nuclear cuise missile, etc...

(No audio at the moment, sorry...)

Background: the world is an endless shallow sea, the only change is the tidal waves (created by the huge close moon) that can destroy everything in their path. So habitants of this planet have found a way to grow, tame and colonize huge animals. They use them from simple mount to huge animal-city. Each faction has a totem animal that they use and revere, and their own weapon specialty. In this kind of world, encounters are bound to happen, so every expedition out of the mother city is armed to the teeth and ready for combat. People lives depends on their gigantic host so they take very good care of them in and out of combat.

"We couldn't find your page"

have you published your game?
If it is still on draft, you need to get a secret link

I might be missing something and apologies if I am, but there does not seem to be any point to the game. The health bars don't move, clicking the UI does seem to make the turtle do stuff sometimes but nothing really comes out of it. It's more of animation really.

I think the game looks great, but the lack of a title screen or tutorial of any kind feels like it throws me in head first into a battle with a fort crab that knows more about what to do than I. I cannot seem to distinguish the function of any attack except for "All in !". I wanted to see what "Give Up" did, but that sent me off the screen, from which "All In !" could pull me back into battle with the crab, except that this time neither of us could damage the other. I was just overall confused by the encounter.

A funny take on real-time skirmishes, but there doesn't seem to be any interaction at the moment (health bars don't move ?) The graphics and the particle effectare are quite great though, and kept me playing for a few minutes even though I haven't had much of an impact on the adversary. To sum up, a silly, beautiful shell that I would really want to see filled with actual gameplay.

Just to reassure you all... At that point no damage or gameplay works (yeah game is useless you could say), its just animations and looks.
Sorry first game to publish and those turrets were mean so I lost a lot of time on them...
I will go further if I see general interest for the concept. I shall have a trully playable version soon if its allowed by LD rules.

This would be cool as a game where you can ride giant sea creatures around or maybe on land like that Unreal (I think?) level where you fight on the missile launchers.

Very cool concept!! I love the idea behind the creatures. I'm not 100% sure how I am supposed to play it though, I think adding some instructions somewhere would be useful :)

I think the concept is really cool but when ever I start it the game seems to be started. I also can't really deal damage to anyone. I think the art was really good but I would work on the game play some more.

What a cute concept! I'm not sure what genres it combines, but I guess it's kindof a fighting game, kind of... I don't know? The 3D models are really cute, and I love the idea of giant animals fighting with fortresses on their backs. A little more development and depth is needed, but I could see this being super fun once completed!
