No Life No Game by TheMoonrise

[raw]
made by TheMoonrise for LD 44 (JAM)

About the game:

'No Life No Game' is a 2D-pixel-art arena game. The audience wants thrilling fights, so they pay you more, the more health you sacrifice before the battle. Use that sweet cash to upgrade your gear and slay more foes.

Our team:

We are three students of media and computer science. This is our first attempt in creating a pixel-art game, it was exhausting but fun. Unfortunately we didn't manage to get everything we wanted into the game due to some misscalculations at the start. But lesson learned!

We hope you enjoy the game - Good luck in the arena!

Really cool, I like the idea of spending more of your life for better rewards in the long run. Audio was nice.

A surely cool concept, that was well represented by you guys, especially if you did like our team (also composed by computer science students) that had to rush the game in the last day due to miscalculations and university life.
Also, OWO 5 is the perfect name for a murder machine.

Fun game! I really like the mechanics you have for the orange bosses, and the music's great too

Thank you, for the positive feedback!

Yep @nemesis, we too basically only had two days for the project.. I really wish they'd shorten the jam to two days that fit into one weekend.

That was a pretty cool game. It seemed difficult at the start but then I learned a bit and adjusted but it still provided a challenge. Maybe I didn't go far enough but at some point I was left with little to bet with and with no way to regain hp.

Very interesting concept. I had the same idea at the beginning of the jam, to trade life for better equipment and I'm glad to play this kind of game. The graphics are pretty cool. I have one suggestion, it would be to have better feedback for the hit impact of the weapons because it was not very clear when I hit a target.

Great concept. Felt invincible the first time with a billion hearts, until I realised I had to spend them to upgrade. Loved the old school music.

like the music and interpretation of the theme. Have to bet life instead of just spend it was a good idea I think :)

Interesting enemy design, along with cool weapons and nice music.

I have only one thing to add: I think there should be some way to restore hearts, maybe by buying them back but at such price so that you don't gain too much by betting all your hearts and buying them back. I think it would be interesting addition to the game.

I really liked the graphical style of the game! It was also fun to just destroy everything with the right upgrades

I would've loved some more clear feedback of when you take damage. Also is there a way to restore hearts? The betting system becomes very hard to use later on if you run low on hearts.

The game made a great first impression! I got a bit disappointed that there is no way to restore hearts. Basically, game forces you to bet as many hearts as possible at the first stage, then buy everything you can and play onward... Still, the graphics and sound are great!

Thanks for playing and the feedback! @linnet5, @tangiblegames, @wojciech we decided to not provide a way to restore lives as that resulted in major difficulties when balancing. But you are right! With more time and levels we would have had to implement a way to regain some health.

Great job. I love the big boss enemies, and the permanent damage made actions feel really impactful, though with it ending after so few levels I never really got a chance to learn or unlock any of the ranged weapons. This level would benefit greatly from more levels or an infinite mode.

Loved the concept! it's a great tradeoff to give up some life. Neat execution, music was great and I really felt fear when the big yellow death machine came in. Awesome work!

Good gameplay and liked the graphics and sound too. Would have also liked a way to restore health... ideally as part of the potential reward - bet health to get cash, or don't bet health and get some back as a reward instead of cash. I liked the big spike machine enemies too. ;)

Great game! Easily one of my favourites so far. Ofc I didn't manage it, and the game over screen was troll much xD
I liked the concept a lot (I was thinking about doing something similar but then we did our cow thing :D)
The fights were really cool and gave me a terraria vibe, I really liked it :)
The graphics are awesome and the animation is nice. The music is cool as well.
