Pylon Pressure by fazz

[raw]
made by fazz for LD 39 (COMPO)

A very short puzzle game about positioning cellular phone pylons in the most efficient way possible. You're tasked with providing the best possible coverage for the region of Pughwarren, while using the fewest pylons, thus keeping the energy bill down.

There are four possible endings!

I started this one later than intended (changed concept midway through day 1), then spent more time on the graphics than I should have, and so have had to simplify the game somewhat. I had built most of a letter generator to simulate angry residents responding to your pylon placements. I also intended for the map to change over time, protected areas, different pylon types, and to develop the relationship between you, the minister and the Department of Infrastructure < with a dose of humour. Never mind, one for the future.

I apologise if the volume levels are a bit out. Had a bit of a rush on.

Nice puzzle. I'm just missing one ending (everything perfect ?). Art was really cool, like in the 90s games. And texts were funny.

Fantastic look! I love the sassiness in the letters!

I spent a long time trying to get 100% and I just don't think it's possible. >.< I'd really like to see someone try to get it! Really fun game!

Interesting puzzle. Couldn't get all the four endings though. Nice graphics, but the audio for placing the towers was a bit jarring for me. Very British humour, I enjoyed reading the letters. Good job!

I'd love to see more feedback while placing the antennas, but I did a 99.1%, not bad :) Great game!

Pretty sick game! Seems like a very simple game, but that is the beauty of it.One thing is, it seems very hard to get a good score. I got over 95% coverage with 10 pylons, which I think is good. But that doesn't matter. The thing I love about this game is you can decide for yourself if you did well, as it shows you your statistics. The letters do add something special to the game though. :)

Oh, interesting approach. Good to see original entries. It could use more levels but already fun as it is. Good job!

This was really fun, trying to place things as efficiently as possible. Would be cool to see something like this implemented as a feature in a more fleshed out city builder sim.

The audio is really stressfull and i didn't really liked it, but the game was interesting and fun. It was really short but i liked it a lot in general. The graphics were good.

Really nice graphics and the letters at the start and end. I feel it would be nice to have multiple towns to add pylons to rather than just the one.

Not bad at all, even if very short.

This is the sort of thing that people actually have to deal with on a daily basis! Those poor souls ;) It's probably the cleverest interpretation of the theme I've seen so far, but I couldn't get a perfect result. Nice work

I lost it after seeing that signature :D Really good graphics, the game was short sadly.

I hope you keep going with this one because I feel like there's a lot of potential here. The city looks great (it reminds me of those streetmap rugs everyone had as kids), but with a bit of animation I think it would look amazing. Even though the puzzle was pretty simple, I wanted to go back and try different things to see how it would affect the letters.

On the other hand, the sound effects were too harsh and there wasn't enough of a graphical distinction between the areas you could place pylons and those you couldn't.

Very interesting "puzzle" game. I assumed pylons had to be close to each other to be able to connect between them. I really enjoyed it. Good job!
