Play To Survive by Ajay.2002

[raw]
made by Ajay.2002 for LD 41 (COMPO)

[A note on performance : Make sure you choose an appropriate quality setting before launching the game as it will have a major effect on how the game preforms, due to the time constraints full optimisations were not made :) P.S Hope you enjoy ]

Play as Bob a business man who is clearly late for his meeting but he's stuck in the middle of the forest and these pesky zombies have stolen all the parts of his car when he crashed. Help Bob get to his meeting on time by getting back these parts from the zombies by using a combination of stealth, cards and head on offense! This game will blow you away. But beware, some zombies that have taken your parts are much much stronger and it will take a lot more stealth to take back the parts, so you have to play this strategically... Try your luck ;)

We hope you can look past these missing points and see what this game could truly become with some time put into it, we hope to : - Add a lot more world space where the player can interact with - More missions and complex puzzles to solve - Many many more cards - Turret Placement - Invisible - Etc... - Adding variation of enemies - Polishing the level design with a lot more models

How to play?

  • You start on top of a small cliff overlooking your broken down car where you have escaped to avoid the zombies
  • You can go anywhere in the map using the WASD or Arrow Keys
  • By aiming your mouse at a region of ground the player will look there
  • Clicking will allow you to shoot your gun
  • In order to win
    • Kill the enemies with the red light
    • Pickup the part that they drop using 'E' - Run back to your car and press 'E' to put the part inside the car
  • If you run inside the white FOV lines then the zombie will chase you (unless you have cover)
  • If you shoot a zombie it will chase you as well
  • The zombies with the parts are harder to kill and have much higher attack damage and move speed so bewareee!!

IMPORTANT :

  • There are little cards you can collect by pressing E when near it
  • Click on your 'My Cards' menu to open up your cards
  • Select a card to activate the power up

Game Features : - Free Movement in a Small World with Very Nice Models - Ability to directly kill the zombies using a tiny laser gun (harder) - Timer System to see how quick you can win

Expected Improvements : - Larger Space to Play In - Larger Item list for the Cards - More enemy types and weapon types - More detailed modelling - More levels and more objective oriented - Use guides etc... Save03.PNG All of these features were restricted due to time constraints :(

Unfortunately this idea was changed halfway through the jam so the features may be incomplete..

Creating this game was so much fun and I would be very grateful if you checked it out :) Have a nice day.

Wow! You have done a lot of work! And considering that all three of you are 15 year old, that's awesome result.

There are two things I don't actually liked: controls and lack of sound effects. Controls feel really weird. You should have made player always walk to the top of the screen when W is pressed and so on. Relative controls feel weird in this type of game. And as for sounds, try using one of free packs next time and you game would be much more enjoyable.

Now for the good part:
The games looks really good, graphics are simple but overall style is on point. Music is cool, it is not very annoying and feels good. Mood is absolutely fantastic. I can clearly see myself playing game like this when it is finished.

Here goes my 60th and final vote this LD. Some feedback.

Using mouse movement for both movement and cards is not an idea I am very fond of. I think the cards could be just bound to 123 keys and that would be fine.

Mouse sensitivity was through the roof and while I managed to play for 20 minutes, it was an issue for me. Full option menu is not a priority during the gamejam, but any kind of control over that would be gold.

I would love to see my stats on hud, as I could not tell if the cards gave me any boost or what.

There was also one part zombie who just wouldn't die. When I clicked it, no shot was fired, but blood splash would show up anyway, and it would not damage it as it never died.

At some point I managed to figure out the objective, but it would also be nice to have the hud tell me what to do. "Retrieve car parts from the zombies 0/10" -> I retrieve a part -> "Bring the part to the car" -> I bring the part -> "Retrieve car parts from the zombies 1/10".

These are the basic things I feel are missing right now. Other than that, well, I did play it for 20 minutes even being unable to finish it, so it is pretty enjoyable overall I must say. Keep up the good work!

I'm quite surprised with the results of this game, given your age! Congrats!

Love the visuals. Aiming gets pretty hard sometimes, I think it could be improved with a static top-down camera.

Despite that, this game is pretty solid and fun to play! <3

Nice entry. Cute lowpoly graphics and feeting soundtrack. As it was already mentioned, the sensitivity is insane and static top-view camera would have been way more convenient.

Also i think you picked wrong category for your game. As far as i'm concerned, COMPO category does not allow teams. So, even if you spent only 20 hours on your game, but was working in team of 3 people (as description of your entry suggests), you should sumbit your game as a JAM entry.
