Type Ball by Yanni

A Basketball Typing game!

In Type Ball, you play a basketball player taking some free-throw practice shots. Your coach wants you to get better, but you also need to learn to be quicker on your computer. The solution is making every free throw go in if you type out the word on the billboard correctly. Get shots and level up. Time to get good!

Controls: Arrow Keys - Move Space Bar - Shoot

The closer you are to the basket, the easier the words. The farther you get from the basket, the harder the words. The farther shots are also worth more exp, than the closer shots.

Nice one, it would have been nice to have a background, and as you have a progress bar for level i would have one for time as well instead of text. It could also be the letters to type changing color from green to red or something to be more visual. Is nice though, good job!!!

I could see this working really well as a typing aid for teaching children competency in school. very reminiscent and also charming. great work!

Progression was a little bit slow for me, but that was the only issue I found.

Unfortunately, I was unable to play your game. No word ever showed up on the billboard for me, no matter how close or far away I got to the basket. I did not rate because of this, but thought you would like to know. Sorry!

@jharler When the ball is in your hands you press Space Bar to shoot and then it shows the word on the billboard. I had an issue where sometimes the ball wouldn't roll over to you, making it so when you press the spacebar your character does a stealing animating. Sorry, it was acting bad :( I appreciate you checking it out!

@Yanni thank you for explaining that. I thought I had done that last time, but I tried again and sure enough, it worked this time. This is an interesting take on the theme. I really liked how the ball just takes off when you make a mistake. First time it happened, I literally laughed out loud. I would like to see the difficulty progress through the levels (and moving through the levels faster). Overall though, this is a fun entry. Nice work!

@jharler I'm glad it was able to work! I think I'm going to be working on this more after the voting is all done. I think with better progression this could be super fun C: Thanks for giving it another go, I really appreciate it!

Got to level 5, I learned that I reallu have a tendenct to miss the y key.

The idea to scale points with distance was an interesting. Sound design worked really well, thanks to the sounds, I never had to look at the timer to know how much time I had left, I thought that was neat. Due to the quick game play loop, it's really addicting when you get into it, a cool take on the theme.

That's a pretty good entry! Graphics and music are nice, gameplay is fun, especially for fast typists.

Nice work! It was really fun to try and type as fast as possible, and I liked that shooting from far away lead to more difficult words. It would have been nice if you added a lose condition, and used a "score" instead of "level", but otherwise I really liked this. Great job!

I enjoyed the detail of "difficulty" being your distance to the net but the current level should be part of the difficulty/points of the throw.

Some words are bigger then "word box" and this kinda freak me out but didnt had time problem with anything, maybe lowering it for high level (like 4+ to 2/2.5 seconds).

And I will never be surprise typing games with any genere since "The Typing of the Dead" and "Initial D Typing"
