Glowium by Koltonix

[raw]
made by Koltonix for LD 42 (JAM)

Summary: You have just stolen a rare mineral called glowium however it lets off such a bright glow that the police are able to see your getaway, this bright reaction causes the player's visibility to be reduced. To counteract this you can find glowing purple crystals called darkium, this will help with the visibility! Last as long as you can, good luck.

How to play?: The yellow bar is how light you are, the more light you are then the camera will zoom in more, to help fix this you need to find an pick up dark purple crystals called darkium. You can use the spacebar to find the nearest darkium, however, this will deplete the left bar, this is how much you can use the darkium detector. Good luck and have fun!

Controls: WASD = To move forwards, back and to turn QE = To rotate the Camera Escape = Pause Menu Darkium Detector = Spacebar

Creators: Our first Ludum Dare !! Koltonix (Chris) - Programmer @Joedb100 (Joe) - Programmer/Artist mutantdevle (Devlin) - Level Designer

Extra Pieces: Tosh200 (Josh) - Created the main menu and pause sound track @daniel-neale (Dan) - Created the in game sound track

How our Game Relates to the Theme?: Our game relates to the theme mainly in the sense that as time goes on your camera size which is orthographic is reduced over time until a value of about 5 in Unity.

Bugs/Issue: The main issues consist of the AI being abosuletely abhorrent and being generally buggy mainly in the sense of moving and following the player. The second primary issue is optimisation which is due to the game being 'procedurally generated', but I will use that term loosely, which I would have liked to make much more optimised, but due to time contrainsts wasn't quite possible. Due to time constraints due to the AI needing to be changed we also didn't get a chance to include sound effects, but our friends were able to produce some tracks to fit the game.

Digging it. I feel like the camera controls are a little abrupt, but I like the car controls - squirrel'y, but not too bad.

The graphics and audio are nice. The idea is very original with all this minerals and th game have a nice difficulty (he's not too simple or too difficult). Great game !

Sound effects for those cop sirens would really make the experience POP! nice work on the game it's fun and very innovative. I have never played a car stealth game before. This would have even worked well with LD41 (combine two incompatible genres, car sandbox and stealth game). well done. Here is a link to the feedback segment from twitch:

I love the aesthetic in this game. I also like the combination of cars and stealth. You say it's procedurally generated, but it seems like I always start in the same spot, maybe the seed needs to be randomized on every run? The camera clips into the buildings sometimes, not sure how to fix that. Sound effects, slightly improved driving physics, and maybe some sort of goal (instead of just how long you can last) would really make this game great.

Very good game! Awesome graphics. But it's getting easier - not harder - if you progress in the game.

Very nice concept! With a little more feedback and a better understanding of the objectives it would be even better! I really liked the atmosphere, the music, the minimalist style and the controls of the car! Great job!

I like it! The mood was really nice and so were the graphics! It took me a while before I understood the concept of collecting crystals and the police cars but it was still fun when I just tried to avoid cars and buildings with a easily spinning car. So the best quality: Easy mechanics and beautifuk beautiful graphics! What you can improve: Maybe some extra explanation on how the game works? (I didn't find out about space-bar until my last run for example) c:

I liked the drifting and I didn't notice the camera zooming until it was very very close. I liked that! Nice take on the theme.

I enjoyed playing your game! I was having some fun, and then I saw a tree rolling on the road... Destructible content!!!

So I started running towards trees then I discoverd a part of the map that was blinking. I went closer, and it was full of trees colliding, pretty much from where the first tree was coming. I tried to run into it but a police car was hidden into it and I got caught.

You would probably describe that as a bug but for me it was the little something that makes a playthrough worth it haha.

Graphics really helped to set the mood by the way! Night driving is so enjoyable :D

Good job!

The game was pretty good overall, Devlin's tiles were great and his ai was the better one. The sound that Dan made is sublime. Joe's graphics look very good. Chris however, lets the project down and was the weakest link in this game. But the real star player was James, I want more stuff from him since he is clearly the most talented.
