Keyboard Explorer by Ryvencore

[raw]
made by Ryvencore for LD 41 (JAM)

About the game

You play as a curious explorer who seems to be handicapped so your job is to type the commands and make the poor guy move or do other ungodly bidings

What to do

  • Navigate through main menu and level select using WASD or arrow keys. Also added mouse cursor in main menu for those who likes mouse cursors and want to miss out the cool camera animations between selecting "Start", "Select" or "Quit"
  • Typing "help" shows you available commands during gameplay
  • Type commands to progress

I can't select anything in the menu! I tried keyboard and Xbox controller, windowed and fullscreen but NOTHING! Which sucks, cause I was exited to play!

Very cool game. Really interesting idea, I didn't think I'd see a typing-based game like this. The art was also cute. A few quick things: It would have been helpful to get some visual/audio feedback when you hit a switch. I was on the 3rd level, not sure if anything had changed when I hit the first switch. Very polished overall, I liked that there was an actual tutorial (a lot of games in LD tend to defer the tutorial to just being in the game's page). It felt satisfying to pre-type things like jump, and then time my enter press to execute the action correctly while running. Good job!

Cool graphics, cool music, the game is polished. But I did not manage to pass through the third level (I think) because of the walljump ... I do not understand how it works :/

But the game is really good :) Keep coding ! (and making art stuff and all of that things you know, but I think that's cool to say that, so ... yeah, keep coding ^^)

@Matthew Hrehirchuk You can't see the mouse cursor, so clicking the menu is hard. But otherwise great game! Such a shame it's so short.

Cool graphics, music. Simple but good.
I had a bug on stage 4 when i died. Bloom screen and console doesn't respond anymore.
Can you check my team's game ? He's not finished yet, it's our first LD but we need your comment for progress :)

That's a lot of fun! I can definitely see this as a good typing tool for learners!

Pretty solid game, but I got stuck on the fourth level (walljump made me auto wall jump, but once I reached the ledge I just fell down?)

I beat the game! I really liked it. Better than the typing tutor programs they gave us back in elementary school.

A great idea, well executed. This game feels extremely polished and professional, the 3d graphics and the music really give the game a fun atmosphere. With more levels and word variety I could definitely see this game evolving into a popular typing tutor. Keep up the great work!

Clever idea, and the art is beautiful! The timing between different obstacles felt perfect.
I would recommend doing something to show when the buttons were pressed, since I thought the game was broken at the first button on level 3.

Linux Terminal: The Game  Kidding aside, this is great and very polished. Things I missed are probably more command history when pressing the up arrow, some tab autocomplete and multiple commands per line separated with a space. Level 3 was a bit odd since I missed the first plate, but then I realized I can walk in air when swinging so that solved that in a bit unorthodox fashion.

This was really fantastic! It was polished, fun, and I had almost no problems with it. I wish it was longer, but that's almost more of a compliment than anything! The graphics were great, and the music was chosen well! Amazing work! I had a lot of fun with this!
