I think each character has a different purpose, and that you have to keep a certain balance so that nothing blows up? The idea was that as you play you discover the mechanics which allows you to sacrifice more effectively, so even though the game is one level it feels like there's a progression. Also we tried to make it so that even just doing nothing is entertaining so there isn't pressure on the player.
