Get Rekt by lot9s

[raw]
made by lot9s for LD 38 (JAM)

Get Rekt is a game about booping, dodging, surviving, and rectangles. Please enjoy!

Instructions: Use WAD to move quickly, wipe enemies off the screen, and, thus, earn points. Beware as moving in this way costs energy as indicated by the cyan bar on the right side of the game canvas! Energy can be restored by remaining perfectly still on the ground, but, while not moving using WAD, you are vulnerable to enemy contact. While on the ground, you may move to the left/right using the left/right arrow keys.

Try to see if you can get the maximum score of 99,999!

I saw the number go up on the right the first time I played, but I couldn't get it to do it again. It took me a little time to figure out I had to dodge the rectangles, but i'm still not completely sure if that's exactly what I supposed to be doing. Dodging stuff while going super fast with `wasd` was fun, and with some more instructions this game could be a great reaction game.

Thank you very much for the feedback @jones! I've added some instructions above in response. :)

Pretty fun! I think I got it after playing a few rounds. Touching squares while keys are pressed is ok, otherwise it's death. I scored about 1200. Nice job.

Nice idea, took me a few tries to get it but it's quite addictive! Very simple gameplay and art style which fits it perfectly. I didn't get close to the high score but enjoyed playing, nice job :)

Interesting dodging game! The hitboxes on the white squares felt a bit big, but the dashing was pretty clear. The progression was pretty interesting with the yellow dots and the giant white chunks, though it took me a bit to get there - haven't survived past that part to see if there's anything else, but could be cool to expand upon with different spawning patterns. Starts to get in that bullet hell kind of feel, though you're also collecting the bullets and dodging them at them at the same time, which is cool. Nice job, I could see this as a jump off point for a game on mobile or so.

This was quite difficult, but addictive. I had to double-read the instructions before I got that contact while on the ground = bad :)

One negative I'd give is that the dashing sound started to grate after a while. Might have been better if it was quieter or had a pitch shift on it.
