Shifty Thing by Wahooney

[raw]
made by Wahooney for LD35 (JAM)
Shift shapes between Light, Heavy, Flat and Bouncy to make it past the obstacles. Rack up the highest score you can!

UPDATE:
I've added an OSx link (itch.io), the game is slightly modified from the LD-Day. Changes are:

* Fixed a particle bug
* Made an obstacle harder (to nerf the light shape)
* Added a new obstacle (the bounce break drop)

Please judge accordingly.

Instructions are in game.

Created the (minimal) art and game code in 10 hours ( my other game was too big :P )

Disclaimer: Used personal libraries for object management/pooling, sound management and building the (kinda-)infinite ground plane.

Very polished for 10 hours. Great work! It definitely exploits the addictiveness of this type of game and I got that "one more round" feeling from the start.

High score: 25. :)

Wow, this is awesome. It's very difficult, intentionally, but I stuck with it for a while and actually got pretty good at it! Super satisfying animations, and a great sense of humor conveyed just through the feel of the mechanics. Great work!!

Thanks for the feedback, peeps! orkybitz, I agree with you on the light being op, have a cunning plan. I'm going to post a new version with some tweaks (I'll mark it for LD-clarity).

Fun! Seriously. I'm seriously bad at this though. Can we get a "tutorial" level to get used to the controls please :D

Woot! A cool 17 points!!

That's really awesome! I had a hard time getting used to the controls, but when I did, it became really satisfying to get into the rhythm of switching between the forms. It also feels like more of a cerebral challenge than your usual runner-type game, because you have to think about a lot more in terms of how the physics of the different objects work.
Nice one!

I like the aesthetics. Cool application of theme onto an infinite runner/jumper. Super difficult though. I wish it started out slower in speed. My high score was only 5. These commenters who get scores in the 20s must have godlike dexterity. Great job for 10 hours!

Impressed with the level of polish. Love the meaty sensation when you crater - takes the sting out of failure :D Really fun too, great job.

Hi, nice game ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #35.
Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description

The concept is really good and addictive you should continue working on and making a finished game out of it
