On the enchanted lands, there lives a little witch who wanders in the night skies to protect those that live there. Follow her in her quest. But beware, since you cannot be reckless with where or who you shoot your magic bolts, they might not be enough if you don't use them wisely.

Mechanics

  • A sidescroller shoot'em up with limited power to use.
  • Collect crystals to replenish your magic and hearts to replenish your health.

  • Heart: frame_00001.png

  • Crystal: power<em>up 2</em>00029.png

Controls

  • Arrows and WASD moves.
  • Space shoots. (you can keep space pressed to auto-fire, or mash it to shoot faster)

  • Gamemaker Studio 1.4
  • Fruitloops
  • Clipstudio

The game was made within 24hs (from Saturday to Sunday) and with almost no internet (all the codes and assets were made by us, we couldn't get anything online. Sadly the reschedule got us by surprise T.T .


Bug fixes:

version 1.01

  • bug where power ups stopped appearing after some time fixed (in the regular and Boss stage);
  • bug where transition to Boss stage would not happen fixed.

Post LD Fixes:

  • fixed some HUD-related bugs;
  • tweaked the boss difficulty;
  • included a hp bar on the boss fight (it was there before, but outside of the player view).
  • fixed the boss patterns to give it a gentler difficulty curve
  • fixed the power-ups balance and creation variables
  • added mouse support in-game

Nice and clean art, though I somehow expected it to be a little more detailed.

The gameplay is too simple and repetitive, you really could spend another day to add more enemy variety and patterns or maybe even boss, I think.

Also some time into the game weapon power ups stopped to appear. Is it bug?

Hi @sun-wukong

Thanks for the feedback. We tried to keep it simple, both the art and the gameplay, since we didn't had much time to work on it. We started on the saturday evening and had to stop around 8:00 PM on sunday (in other words, around 24hs only). It was harder to gather everybody since the LD's reschedule (some of us had to work on saturday/friday and early in monday).

We even started working on a platform stage and a cutscene, but had to cut them out since we were running out of time T.T .

About the variety, there is a boss stage on it ;) with some variety. You just have to endure a little bit more :) .

Can you tell when did the power ups stopped appearing? (yes, it is a bug, I'll fix it).

The graphics are clean and simple. Just one tip though:

The character and the enemies seem artificially bright considering its a night scene. I don't know what engine you are using, but maybe you could make the characters dull and light them through a different source?

Anyways good effort 😀👍

The graphics are pretty nice and the game plays pretty well. The boss is quite hard, but I'm also bad at shmups :grin:

But still it's very nice and hardcore game. Can't beat first boss :)

I loved the art style, especially the boss. Couldn't get past it though, kept dying.
I think the sound compliments the game nicely too!

@besslaaneshi, the game gets harder but is doable. That was the difficulty setting for those of our team that weren't prime button mashers (aka. me T.T).

I really love the art style of this game (especially the fairy boss) - I can tell you spent a lot of time on it! The sound effects suited the music well, and in general you have established a nice mood. It played pretty well, but I felt the first boss fight did go on a little too long. Overall, you did a great job.

The best part about this game was the aesthetics; both the art and the audio were very well done.

From a gameplay standpoint, the mechanics were decent. I was able to play it from beginning to end and not get bored with it. However, I feel like if you want to take this further in the future, getting more depth in the mechanics (power ups, more enemy diversity, etc) is definitely the first place you should look.

Woah, I really love the graphics! The art style is really adorable. The game is fun to play, too. And I had a good laugh when I got to the boss. (I wasn't able to beat him, though.)

I would wish for two things to improve the game. First a progressbar so you know how long you have to fly to get to the next stage. And second a healthbar for the boss.

I like the game espacially the soundtrack, but the boss is soooo hard.... I wouldnt mind figuring out how beat him, but without any feedback in form of a healthbar it is a bit demotivating :/

Nice game simple but taking in account your problem of time it is still impressive. I loved the graphics with the hair flying and especially the design of the first boss but was not able to defeat him/her. Is it even possible? Maybe you could add a healthbar for him if you make an update. Anyway good job :)

Pulled up my wineskin just to play this game on mac since the art looked so nice, did not disappoint
Simple and addictive gameplay and the art really stood out
I think we can all agree that the boss deserves his own game

I added a post LD version with the HP bar and made it a little easier (I, as a monster hunter fan didn't think a hp bar was a necessity, sorry).

Nice idea! I really liked the artstyle, it was pretty clean, and the game was simple, yet effective. And... well, i didn't expect that fairy to be so... buff? xD

Overall, really interesting! I didn't manage to beat the boss, though... sometimes when i shot at him (it's a him or a really buff her?) i dealt damage, and some other times i didn't... i didn't quite understand how it worked. I guess he has some invulnerability frames after he's hit...?

Well, that's probably my only complaint. Or maybe i was just too busy looking at his abs to realize what i was doing wrong, who knows.

Overall, a fun game! It's a known concept, but it's well executed in it's simplicity and with a twist and nice theme to keep it interesting. Gj all of you! Best of luck!

(Btw, i'm editing this... to add this up, now that i've red some other comments. Yes, indeed, i find the boss fight very hard. And it isn't necessarely a bad thing. However, i feel it doesn't match the difficulty of the first stage... I got that on the second go, and i couldn't kill the boss on my 7th. It's a huge increase of difficulty, i feel, in such a small time. Btw, sir, you've got good taste. Monster hunter rules! :P)

Thanks @vulpem, there were some issues with her iframes. I adjusted her difficulty curve to be gentler, but I'm afraid that she got too easy. Maybe I'm biased by knowing all her patterns -.- .

Really nice art, but somewhat predictable. Could do with more variety of enemies and I didn't really feel I was running out of power as pickups were so frequent. Really adorable concept though, very visually pleasing :)

That was cute and fun! I liked the art style. It made it very easy to tell what was going on in the foreground and the nicely painted/drawn background. I have to agree, I wish there were either more enemies or a stingier power up bar. The music was very relaxing to combat the high pace of the game. It was solid and enjoyable. Well done :)

Visual style and the atmosphere is really impressive . But mechanics are a little simple. With more deeper gameplay and fluid game feel (When you hit enemies or projectiles show some particle etc.) this game could be really good. Good luck with your entry !

The main character is a cutie for sure, tho I kinda wish she had eyes. The general enemies are lacking when comparing designs. The boss was drawn well. Also the hearts kinda looked like blobs. And there was a heck of a lot of ammo and health laying around. even on the boss. I'm glad that I died a couple of times on the boss because the level was lacking a challenge. The ammo hud was really sweet looking, but we don't need that much ammo, especially with it floating around everywhere. hearts should probably come from enemies rarely. I really liked the sketch style but would have loved to see more frames in the animations. anyways I'm taking notes for next jam. Cute character brings in the plays! The controls were nice on this.

@cnoble, thank you :). I'm currently working on balancing the power ups, but I'm afraid to make it too hard (I left like that since it was way too difficult). And we are truly looking for to continue to work on this game. More enemies, more mecanics, more levels and maybe more buffed up bosses :P

@loadsofmana, sorry. We thought of using the theme in a mecanic stand point. It needs adjusting. T.T

@rikoclon. The lack of eyes was a design decision. We saw it being used on several animes and decided to try it. Thanks for the feedback, I'm currently working on rebalancing the power ups.

The art style is really nice and consistent, but the sound design is a little lacking. This would be a cool shooter if you added more powerups and different types of enemies!

I also really enjoyed the art. I'll admit I couldn't beat the boss until I saw the comment that you can spam the spacebar. That made a huge difference (before I was just holding for autofire) and I beat it on the first try. I did find a good exploit was to hide behind the boss and collect hearts when my life was low. I wouldn't have minded a small damage invulnerability when I was hit because sometimes I was hit with 3 things at once insta-killing me. Still, it was a beautiful game and fun to play!

Loved the visuals but found the gameplay lacking, would have been cool to see pickups that increased attack rate or gave you new attacks.

@almax, yeah... I was working on that but ran out of time to implement these, we even left out a "helper" to shoot more projectiles. (we tried to add a platform stage too... but it drained most of our time and didn't work properly. T.T )

The parallax backgrounds made it feel like I was flying at top speed which really helps with the immersion. That boss is one tough cookie. I died :( lol It would have been nice to either see a flash or sound that help me to understand when a shot connected. For the smaller enemies is fine since they die in one hit but for the boss it would help since I was spending my time dodging everything that was coming I was not sure if my shots were connecting. :D

Fun art. Nice colors. On the one hand I like that the boss level puts you back at the boss when 4 hearts left, but it respawning full health when so hard to kill. I saw on [Elisha's Twitch Stream] (https://www.twitch.tv/elysiagriffin) that your new version fixes the boss strength, which is great. Good job and wish you well with your updates!

That was a really fun and simple game. The art was funny and cute at the same time, and I liked all of the animations, specially the girl's! That was detailed :) I also thought the big gilr boss was really manly xD Kinda funny. I also noticed the background with parallax, once again great attention to detail. It looks like a simple game but all these details show you put real effort into it. My only suggestion would be to find another font for the lettering, maybe a more mystical one, it would be really cool. Other than that, funny and interesting, great work!

The atmoshpere is great and the art style, while simple, is very fitting and very functional, but in a good way. You can tell everything apart very good and it still looks coherent.

And yeah, the boss graphics really made me smile :)
