Hover Power! An Unfortunate Game Jam by F-Dawg

[raw]
made by F-Dawg for LD 39 (JAM)

Incomplete! But I had to submit for my own sake

Try and get as far as you can on your hoverboard without crashing or hitting a rapid battery discharger! Featuring 80's hair, shoes and a walkman take our Hero on a random line runner as far as he dares push!

This is the result of a bit of a mess of my first solo jam. Between 12 hour weekend shifts, tractors with flat tyres and then a full time game dev week day job I didn't get to put in the time and effort I had hoped for this. I'd say less than 6 hours of work actually was put into this game and most was spent faffing about with art.

This was a very good experience for myself however, I learned a lot of what goes into a Jam and I hope 40 will prove more successful!

BUT! Here it is! No start menu! No End Screen! No Points! Time or any real relevance to running power!

Oh hey, it's an autorunner. Seems to rely a bit much on memorisation and luck which unfortunately diminishes the fun quite a bit. Could be zoomed out enough to see where you're jumping and bit more vertical movement too.

Basing on your comments it was a learning experience though, so I hope to see your next work for LD40!

Very bad choice in music, game is quite unresponsible and as meantioned before, camera could use increasing the size.

Guy with headphones is cool, but other stuff are well described above in comments.
Hope to see your finished project on LD40!

The music is really, really grating. Remember, when in doubt: just write some low-pitch arpeggios. Maybe look into that for LD40 :)

Congrats on your entry, looking forward to seeing you for ld40!

Hmm..the guy is cool. The rest is really unfinished. But the core mechanics are there.
Next time try to add a simple GameOver Level and a Simple "StartLevel" so you feel when game restarts :)
Just a simple black screen with a small textbox could be enough.

Good luck next time - hoverboard games are cool.

nice work men! you work alone in it and we all know how much that cost! I love the way it hoover and the control are quite responsive, the camera thing and music like all said before are the main problem , but that can be improve.

Don't worry I've submitted incomplete stuff before to LDjam so it happens. I could see where you was going with this and given more time could of been a more fleshed out and polished game but as it stands it's not terrible and can be quite fun and challenging to play. It's all about learning and developing your skills, so I look forward to seeing what you make at the next jam! :D
