Potty Panic by Ryan Brenner

[raw]
made by Ryan Brenner for LD 43 (JAM)

The King Toilet Demon has decided he has had enough of living in the sewers. With the help of his Toilet Paper army, he has decided that he is coming to the surface and YOU are his first target. It's up to you to send him back to his porcelain throne down under. Unfortunately for you, the only way to fend them off is to sacrifice everything in your house to clog the very pipes from whence they will be coming. Are you a dirty enough dude to take down the King Toilet Demon yourself? Or will you be the first victim to the Sewer Toilet Uprising?

Interesting concept for a toilet-like game. I think this will join the list of toilet related games on my mom's laptop

I love explicit ideas like this one and especially a toilette humor. Good job on this one!

Fun game, wish I could have been able to jump with "W" or "Up" while using respective keys (and maybe left/right click to pickup and throw), but that is really just a preference. Good entry, fun idea, man could my guy throw some of those items far!

Wow such a shi*ty game (sorry :laughing: )! This game is really fun! I like the way the character picks up items and throw them, it feels satisfying. I also really like the art and overall look-and-feel of the whole thing! Really awesome!! Great job!

@one-seed-fruit Thanks! @johara-dutton did a great job with the art assets. One of my favorite moments during development was the first time I knocked a toilet paper guy out :laughing:

Any game with a grab/throw mechanic like that has already won me over. The art's really cute and well-made. Running around spamming grab/throw created an unstoppable tornado which was beautiful :smile:

@ursagames We both really loved watching you play our game! It is extremely helpful (and fun) to watch someone else play it.

First off, thank you for all the nice comments on our art! I'm so glad you liked it.

Some big things we're hoping to update/fix in future updates:

- Visual health display (player starts with 10 health)
- Making sure the player knows what they need to do in order to beat the game: clogging both toilets, fighting the toilet demon, and then flushing HIM once he's defeated!

There are a lot of other little things we're looking forward to fixing as well, but @ryan-brenner would probably be better suited to talking about it.

Thanks again for playing our game!

@yetibytes Thanks a bunch! :smiley: It can definitely get pretty crazy in there, but there sure is something satisfying about tearing down everything in your home hahaha

Great game! I loved how feel I was to grab literally anything in the room even stunned enemies and throw them. Also really liked the ability to stack multiple small objects like having ammo, nice touch. You mentioned it above and I strongly agree that this game would benefit from a health bar and even a score to give the player so indication of how they are doing. Amazing game none the less, congrats.

@block97 Thanks for the feedback! A few things were planned but had to be scrapped to make the deadline, and unfortunately an HP bar was one of those things, which I'm now regretting. But we plan to make some QoL updates in the future, so this feedback is super helpful!

Cool game, the artstyle is really cute!

I didnt notice the upstairs area until it was completely overrun :'D

@baktillus That is definitely one thing that I would like to address in a future update. Ideally we would have a cutscene before the actual gameplay starts to get the player acclimated with movement, throwing, and the objective. Thanks for playing!

Really fun and creative. The art style was cute, the mechanics worked perfectly, and the difficulty was on-point. My only real complaint is that the screen shake near the end was a BIT much, it's hard to tell what's going on after a certain point.
🎤 Ryan Brenner
05. Dec 2018 · 23:27 UTC
@chaczyk Thanks! :smile:

@taco360 That is actually caused by a large object endlessly bouncing on a toilet paper enemy, haha. I'll be sure to have a fix for that in the future. Thanks for playing!

I also got an Earthbound vibe! Love the cute art style and chilled music, went really well with the absurdity of the objective. I wasn't sure what the stacking mechanic was adding to the gameplay, it confused me a little especially as picking up and throwing were mapped to different buttons. You could either flesh it out, or remove it and have everything on one button :smile:

06. Dec 2018 · 19:45 UTC
Funny idea and I love that you can pick up everything, even the appliances and the tub. The graphics and sounds were excellent. The controls were tricky to use. I would've rather seen a single button used for both picking up and throwing. Having to switch back and forth make things a bit confusing for me. Overall though, great job!

06. Dec 2018 · 22:03 UTC
@beats Thanks!

@arc1llusion @chrismcmath @jharler Hahaha, we definitely weren't (consciously) going for an Earthbound vibe but I will definitely take that since Earhtbound is my favorite game :laughing:. Thank you for your feedback about the buttons. I originally had pick up and throw as the same button but it would make throwing difficult if you were on top of another item. I think part of the issue is that it's not clear how many items you can pick up at a time since it is weight based and there is no indication of how heavy an item is. I will definitely look further into how I can improve the controls for the future. Thanks so much for playing!
