It's Always Your Turn by Yorsh

[raw]
made by Yorsh for LD 41 (COMPO)

I went for a mix of a card game and a (kind of) RTS.

You are the blue mage, and have to kill the red mage (CPU). Both players draw at the time, slowly at first but it gets faster as the game goes on. You can play your cards whenever you want, as fast as you want.

https://i.imgur.com/HDDb3OY.gif (I did not understand how to include it nicely :( )

*Controls : * Each card in your hand is mapped to a key on your keyboard (Q W E R T Y or 1 2 3 4 5 6 by default).

Hold the key to select and preview card, then release the key to play it at the position of your cursor.

Cards :

Monsters have their HP in red, and their power in blue. They can be melee or ranged.

There are only 2 spells : The Fireball spell that deals damages in AoE, and the Teleport spell that moves all monsters hit to a random location.

Conclusion : This is my first submission, I hope i did everything right. Pls let me know if it's not the case :)

Nice idea! I think that if you had a bit more time, it could have been something quite good ^^
But what you've made is already nice. Too bad there's no sound or music though, it could have add a lot to this game.

Overall, strong idea, congrats!

I love the idea of this game! Its just that you can just play all the cards right away without thinking and you win. Something is missing to make the game great. But nice job!

This is a really good idea, with a pretty impressive execution given the time constraints. I think that with some more work on balancing, this could be a really good and interesting game.

While I also reaaaally like the idea here, I still feel (like the others), that something gameplay-wise is missing. However it's fair to say that this is probably due to lack of time. The game you made showcases the basic idea really well, and with stuff like synergies between the creatures, or spells to buff up your creatures, this could really become an awesome awesome game.

Apart from the gameplay, I really liked the design of the game. The graphics looked good and consistent and the animations were smooth. Great job!

Really nice entry with an awesome idea, well done! :)

Wow! Awesome! Such a simple idea! Well implemented and it fits the theme! Also, once you learn the units it'S quite strategic!

Really nice overall! I would have liked it if there were some music on top of it! But still, it's very good as it is!

Keep up the good work! :D

I really liked this game. Added it to my Ludum Dare 41 favorites on itch. Hope you will expand on this game further. It has alot of potential.

Reminds me a lot of minion masters.

For a first game this is done well. It lacks some polishing on spawning units and indicating when you are being attacked. Furthermore if you distinguish between monster and spell cards, it would have been nice if you can also give them a different card color to indicate that. And last since this is a battle arena I would have loved it if both wizards were standing on some kind of elevated platform to indicate that they are the central figure, maybe even go as far as two wizard towers.

This was really fun too play and quite balanced for 2 days work!!! The gameplay really captures you (spent 20 min playing without really realizing time has passed) and its all very smooth, simple, nicely implemented and on the theme! Would for sure like to see more! Well done!!!

Dude, this game is amazing and really fun! :D
Played quite a few rounds and really got a kick out of it <3 Great job.

As for feedback i'd say it's balanced a bit towards the easy side of things, in all my rounds i haven't lost once because as long as you keep spawning all your troops in as soon as you have them, and keeping fireballs & teleports to get you out of tricky situations, you can't really lose it seems.

One of the best tricks i found though is to space all your guys out, cause the enemy is quite fond of wiping out your entire wave with one fireball if they're too close next to each other, lol.

Keep up the good stuff!

My brain had a hard time keeping an eye on which cards were filled and targeting them with the mouse. It's like a really really rough prototype version of Clash Royale, but in that game having the two lanes and the click+place card deployment really go a long way towards making it strategic/manageable. I don't think their mana system is the only way to approach this genre, so if you want to keep working on it I'd try to think of ways to make the reaction time less important so you can take the time to deploy your cards carefully.

I liked it, although it was actually a little bit too fast and too easy for me. Maybe prolong one game a little and make the CPU stronger.
I love the graphics!
