Organic Harvest by shujal

[raw]
made by shujal for LD 43 (JAM)

Do you have a missing brain? Have you ever felt like you have one excess kidney? Whatever your problem is, Dr. Dr. Ludwig and his team will gladly take care of you and your organs. Just lay down on that conveyor belt over there and wake up a different person*!

* Terms and conditions apply

promo001.png

The new advertising campaign is gaining traction and the waiting room is already full of people, Mr Ludwig! Now your part of the work begins: you have to see that every organ finds it's right place and that the patients leave the operating room as healthy as possible.

How to play

promo004.png

Patients will enter the OR on one of several conveyor belts. You will have to cut them open and do some organ transplants. To open up a patient, you will have to cut along a marked line on their body in order to not damage any organs. To transplant the organ itself, just drag it over to its new spot and connect the blood vessels. Be careful to connect arteries to arteries and veins to veins!

promo003.png

There's also the possibility of - ahem - 'acquiring' and 'disposing' of organs through other means.

Once you are done with a patient, a press of the green button will send them to the recovery room and bring in the next patient. Coincidentally, there is also an incinerator below (the hospital was built over a steel mill), but I don't see how you could use it.

How to start

In the main menu press one of the green buttons to start the game. If you click on the scalpel there will be a tutorial.

I am super impressed with the systems and concepts you've built. That's a lot for a jam. The different minigames must've taken a lot of work to get all working, but you managed to squeeze them all in in ADDITION to a tutorial. In general you did a really good job coming up w pretty innovative systems, yet tying all of the economy together very coherently, where making one choice affects another resource in a meaningful way, and you're trying very hard to juggle all those #s. You certainly have to make sacrifices after a quick calculation of what goal you're trying to achieve at the time, well done.

Fun game. Liked the components you built. Sometimes the veins would spazz out when I was trying to connect them but that was my only issue. Nice entry!

It feels surreal and sci-fiesque at the same time. Very interesting mood, is it the sacrifice we're going to make in the future ???

This is REALLY good ! There are so much things to do here ! You are totally in the theme even if it's not really obvious first, and that's AMAZING. I can't believe you did this in only 3 days. Congratulations !

Unfortunately, for some reason, I don't seem to be able to buy kidneys from the table... Other organs work, but not these... I'll try later on another computer !

Wow, this is great. I believe I'm able to work in the hospital after playing your game.

The first game so far that I've wanted to play more than once! Everything about it was good, other than as Silvae said, connecting the veins was sometimes a bit tedious.

Maybe my favorite game of the jam. Completely astounded at how you all packed so much content so seamlessly into this game. Art is great, gameplay is satisfying and thoughtful, and the music is catchy. 10/10 from me.

Interesting idea, and game mechanics.
Perfectly fits the theme.
Also, I really liked the mini games.

The overall mood is little bit dark.
Still, really good game, great job!

Very well executed, any way you slice it :D My only gripe is somehow I feel uneasy... which is especially odd for me, considering my nick name.

I love the art style of this. Simple graphics, top notch gameplay. Had a blast figuring out what I have to to. The game itself is kinda spooky but I love how this is not the 500th game about a satanic cult, the devil or something out of this section one would first think of when hearing the word "sacrifice". Good little game, got a lot of potential.

Nice art style and the whole idea. But it's taking too much time to work with each patient.

This game makes you think. Very emotional choice.

Very Portal-like in terms of humor ;) The theme is actually pretty realistic which means even more creepy than the other, less realistic games. Actually in medicin you probably need to make those decisions (but not in transplantation I think, there are queues). I kinda liked it.

That is a lot of different systems to build over one weekend. Great job. I love how well it plays into the Theme, you have to sacrifice some people to save others. Nice work!

Challenging game, cool idea. I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/UvsNqUUFv6I

I liked this a lot! My only problem was that some things that looked like they should be simple (cutting along a line, connecting blood vessels) where quite hard to get right sometimes. Use of theme was excellent, after a while I got used to just dumping the useless patients after harvest, not thinking too much about it...

Took me a while to figure out I should incinerate the ones that I left incomplete, but I admit I didn't read the instructions very clearly, so that's on me :P

The vessel connecting minigame was, honestly, awful to control. Everything else was a morbidly fun resource managing game with a dark sense of humor.

Interesting concept mixing things like Trauma Center and Surgeon Simulator (at least that's what I saw). Game play is simple to get into (which is always a plus in my book) though I did find it hard to work with connecting the vanes as it is not super smooth but perhaps that's part of the design to simulate micro surgery ;) I did experience a problem with the web version where I got not audio what so ever unless there is no audio?

@prodigalson There should be audio. Maybe it's a problem with chrome not allowing autoplay of audio. You can try the web version on itch.io, maybe this one works better.

Excellent work. Very difficult on a trackpad, and I felt I was a little too short on cash generally (forced to sacrifice too may people) because so many people came in with like no organs at all. Never got the bonus items.

Very original concept and frantic gameplay. I was having the memory of a goldfish while playing and recording it ("Isn't that the same liver?") but nevertheless had some morbid fun:

Nice and creepy game! Love the visuals and doctor weird music. It was a bit hard to figure out what the objective was... save people? make money? how do I lose?
Aside from that I had fun doing the minigames (got more and more proficient at cutting).

Nicely done!
