An NES game I made in 48 hours. Whew! 2 all-nighters' worth of hard work! I would've loved to add more content such as more screens and all but deadlines are deadlines. C'est la vie!

This is an actual NES ROM that runs on real hardware! Or your favourite emulator :) - For those that don't have one, I've included MESEN with Sour's authorisation.

I hope you enjoy it :)

Wow this is actually amazing, I can't believe you made an NES game!

It plays well too! It's hard but not impossible (as NES games are), and the graphics are beautiful, seriously great job.

My only feedback is that there should be some sort of animation when you successfully hit something, because at first it was hard to tell if my punches were doing damage.

Great stuff!!

- For those going to play, make sure you read the readme!

Surprising entry! Making a NES game like this in 48 hours is super impressive, so great job! The graphics are superb, although I had a little trouble reading the text.

So cool that you made a NES game! It was pretty entertaining and was not what I expected.
Also, nice pixel graphics.

It's a really nice game! I like the graphics and challenging gameplay. Although sometimes it felt like it was too hard, especially with the shooting guys. And the font was kinda hard to read, but maybe it's just me.

Nicely done! The graphics in this are simply stunning - the things you do with the NES limitations never cease to amaze me. The engine felt solid too. And, an NES game within the constraints of the compo is always cool.

I always try to give a little constructive criticism, so I guess I'll mention that I occasionally had a bit of trouble telling what was foreground vs background. Like another poster, I was also confused when I didn't see clear indications when an enemy was hit. (I often make the enemy flash for a second or so) - I heard the sound but initially thought the snakes were invincible.

Overall, very nicely done!

A real, functional NES game, I was really impressed when I reached the shop. Great effort.
Enemies take too many hits though!

Wow what a throwback!! The art is really top notch. The gameplay is pretty much par for the course for an NES game (in terms of difficulty) and I really like the idea that you could play it on an original NES too! Great stuff.

Nostalgic! I liked that it played like an early NES game, and had about the same difficulty as one. Level design was really good. The toughness of the enemies scaled well. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to beat the game. I'm just not the same straight-shooter I was.

The attention to detail was top-notch as well. The writing was fantastic. The fonts and colors worked with the setting. There was a name for each screen, which was great. Enemies had multiple attacks. Timing of attacks was fun to learn. Random points that did nothing, like the good ol' days. Starry night sky. Just overall great job.

Only thing that got annoying was the jump sound, but I can see how it made it more of an NES experience.
Thanks for the fun!

Very well done. It is complete game! You would be popular 20 year ago, haha :D It is hard, I didn't make it over the first saloon, I've tried twice, always been killed after the purchase and almost before I changed a weapon :D It is fun, I like it.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
I'm very glad that it seems like you're enjoying my game, I really appreciate it :)

Some people mentioned the font being hard to read, and I guess demoscene-inspired fonts aren't everyone's cup of tea :P - but I tried making it not too illegible this time.

Definitely agree on adding a little indicator for when the enemies are hit but I didn't have enough time to add that sadly :(

@aterlamia That's also a time-related issue :P - If I had more than 2 days to make the game I would've added a check and gravity but again, time has run out.

@richard-jedlicka První pár obrazovek nejsou moc obtížné, takže já bych se tam snažil šetřit život a pak v tom obchodu bych si hned koupil pistoli a brokovnici a pár nábojů. Kdyby ti zbyl život nad 300 HP takže bych taky koupil boty, moct skákat výš fakt pomáhá po prvím obchodu (Sorry for the Czech but I spotted a fellow Czech in the comments so I had to :P)

@cheesepencil Thanks for taking the time to check out my game as well, I loved yours!

And here I thought I was the only one dabbling with assembly this time round! Really nicely done for 48 hours: Loved the art-style, and you did a solid job with getting this put together in such a short space of time.
