Running Outer-PWR by Amatwiedle

[raw]
made by Amatwiedle for LD 39 (JAM)

IT IS THE FUTURE - AND YOU'RE STUCK RUNNING OUTER-PWR

You are the one mechanic on the Spherical Solar Farm named Outer-PWR. It's ongoing mission - to siphon energy from the local sun. But they bit off more than they can chew. The Sun has turned its full attention to them - and is now bombarding the station with a lethal amount of heat. Your main objective - Stick it to mother nature by repairing the solar panels that The Sun keeps breaking. If you can survive long enough, The Sun'll probably get bored and go back to sleep.

This was our first LD, even though it was incredibly frustrating, it was an awesome learning experience.

They aren't publishing along with the submission. I added them to the post for good measure, but it'll take a moment to propagate.

Cool game, cool idea! I found a few bugs with the green-jump things, though (in my second attempt I couldn't jump on it to reach a higher panel, in my third attempt I was falling and hit the green wall and then I was floating and jump didn't work - then dead).

@aaforcebox Thanks for the feedback! It was our first time working with Unity2D and ran across its numerous physics issues. Didn't have enough time to fix them all I'm afraid :(

Character could have used an actual walking animation but other than that, nice game, good concept.

I like the music. The jumping felt a little weird, I found I was able to momentum myself very high from the walljumping blocks. I really like the concept of running around the outer hull of a spacestation. It made choosing where to go next feel very interesting/satisfying.

I really enjoyed playing this game and i like this space movement!
Some animations would have been nice.

I'm on a laptop, so I could read the instructions. Enjoyed playing though. Good game with really good music and graphics.

I like the game concept a lot. Running around, trying to survive just long enough while having to repair those solar panels, that was a lot of fun! I really wanted to beat this game, but didn't manage, sadly, because I encountered a lot of bugs that had me restart the game. One bug that got me twice was that when you fall in here: ![bug.png](///raw/430/8/z/8789.png) you won't get out there (you're stuck floating in the air without the ability to jump). Another time I wasn't able to jump anymore, not sure why, but it was at this wall: ![bug2.png](///raw/430/8/z/878b.png).

With a version that is a little bit more polished, and maybe with more consistent graphics, this would be a really great game! But despite its problems it was still a lot of fun to play.

Nice relaxing music makes for quite the cathartic experience as you wander through this (space station I assume) and fix solar panels. Nice job!

@apace I noticed that first bug immediately after the submission period ended , but thanks for the feedback!

@dreadloaf Exactly the mood I was aiming for, thanks!

good first submission i liked the relax background music. Moving and especially jumping felt a bit weird. And a good walk animation would have definitively made the game feel more complete. Was fun to play.

A pretty interesting game~ Admittedly, the 'help' screen was quite the mess, but I got the hang of it eventually. The platforming was... kinda weird, but it did have a space-walk kind of feel to it, so I guess it worked a little in favour of fitting the mood! Quite a difficult game with the odd platforming, but otherwise not bad at all~

Says data folder not found if I launch it in itch.io app.
I think it could be better communicated as to how you fail - instead of having to hold shift, perhaps that could be displayed by default on-screen? Got stuck at a section where my jump suddenly failed (not sure if intentional - as I was able to jump by retracing my steps). The floaty platformer jump fit the game but the double jump didn't feel that responsive. Pretty good atmosphere, I like the sunglasses although it felt a bit jarring.

Too sad that there is no walk animation. The idea is nice and the game could have been fun.
I liked the spark effect.
