Power Down by Lightsmasher

About

Power Down is a puzzle platformer where you are a blob with the ability to shoot out a beam from your antenna that is capable of powering down objects that it touches. Using this, you must traverse the levels and solve puzzles by triggering objects.

This is my entry for Ludum Dare 39 under the theme "Running out of power". It is my first time taking part, and I definitely ran out of time (see lack of audio and...well, levels). Despite being incomplete, I think this is a solid prototype that demonstrates what I was trying to achieve.

This game was programmed in C# using the Unity Engine. Art was created in Pyxel Edit.

Instructions

Use the A and D keys (or arrow keys) to move left and right, and use the spacebar to jump. Use the left mouse button to fire out a beam that disables objects that it touches. Note that you cannot fire your beam whilst in the air.

I loved this game! It's has so much scope, and has wonderful graphics, and I've always loved puzzle games!

Easily one of the best games I've played so far! Great graphics and animations, and the controls work well (although the jumping felt slightly awkward for reasons that I can't put my finger on). I really like the way you set up the tutorial. Introducing the mechanics gradually and putting some interesting variations and combinations later on. Really the only thing missing is more levels because I would really like to play more of this! I don't really see how the "running out of" part of the theme comes in here, but that's just for the theme adherence. The game itself is great.

This is great! Especially that you made a tutorial level instead of hoping that everyone would understand everything on their own.

I like the graphics and the mechanics are cool, too. The jumping is kind of weird on edges, which results in a feeling of unfairness, when you fall down because of that. But that's no problem, because then you are just reset not far away. All in all: Good! :)

Nice! A neat little puzzle-platformer with adorable blobby animations.

I'd love to see what comes next after the tutorial!

Thank you for your feedback @boundtotheearth and @triastase! The jumping is definitely a bit buggy on the edges, and this leads to the platforming feeling a bit awkward and unsatisfying. I know what the issue is, and if I was to expand on the game further it is something I’d prioritize fixing.

Nice game, I like the idea of shooting a beam on ennemy to wake up them!
Nice work!

This game is great and deserves way more ratings!
I love puzzle platformers and this one looks very promising, too bad there's only one level, whose difficulty is very moderate :-)
Some audio would also have been nice, and the collisions are strange, especially when standing on platform corners... (is your hitbox some shape with rounded edges?)
Overall, very good job!

This is a nice entry with decent controls (though I would prefer having to tap every single time I need to jump as my personal style has me holding the bottom down until I am ready to jump again :P) The avatars are nice and the animation is cute.

I like the ideas here and I can definitely see the potential for further development using the power down mechanic. As others have said, I found the jumping a little odd and couldn't quite get the hang of it.
